Can someone explain house?

Personally I love house or the soulful/funky variety anyway. I would highly recommend the following station if youre into it or want to check it out:

http://www.passion918fm.com/

yeah Passion are a really sorted bunch it's that oldskool goodtimes weekend vibes all over. House is a victim of it's own success, an old genre that's been done to death, can it ever be exciting again?

that's it really - the technoheads who don't like house are into the agressive shit... them as do are into the smoother, detroit end of the spectrum.
Aye. Wiggle your arse not stamp yer feet.

house music. the most consistently dull genre of music yet invented.

And in what way does this kind of post help the OP?

Music threads are so bloody annoying like this. Someone mentions (anything) - and 50% of the posts are "It's shit."... when that was NOT the question being asked.

Put your energy into music threads about stuff you do like, are knowledgeable about. Contribute something. Bend the discussion a bit - point people who are interested in X in the direction of Y.

Just saying "such and such is shit, full stop" is so fucking dull.

Well I was basing that statement mostly on commercial music. I do actually like some hip hop, just not the whole 'YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH NIGGA BITCH I'M A CRAZY GANGSTA MUTHAFUCKAZ IN THE FUCKIN HOUSE BYATCH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH BITCH' thing cuz that really gets on my tits.

What's an example of a really good house tune.

Clearly a contradiction in terms, like Military Intelligence.

Can you actually tell the difference between one house track and another? Its like recent R&B, you listen to an hour of it and just wonder when did the first tune actually end?

its just the same crap repeated ad infinitum.

Plus what makes it all that much worse are the pointless witless dimwits that just rant bullshit all over it.

God I really hated it when they started doing that to DnB, had to have words with a couple of my DJ mates to point out that having arsewipes rant all over DnB is a bit pointless since DnB (atleast what we were listening to) was pretty complex music in the first place and some twat talking just distracted from the quality of it.

It's this. It's that. It's million different things to a million different people.

It's a million different sub-genres. Some great, mostly shite.

It's probably not what you would expect it to be. You have to dig deep. Deep. Away from the charts, the adverts, the thousands of compilatins, the mainstream, the next big thing. It's a small but perfectly formed entity with roots firmly planted in the last 30 years of Black Music. But watch out... it mutates as time lingers on.

It's a lifestyle. It's a way of life (for some people anyway). It's word of mouth. It's got over 20 years in the business.

For me, it's my partly my job. My greatest love. My passion.

When other genres have fizzled out there will still be House.

You can't "explain" House. House is a feeling.

fuckit, I know it's cool to hate house these days, but....

I loves it  Always have done. Unashamedly. Once I've dropped a little biccy I just can't get off the dancefloor once the house kicks in. As long is it's a bit hard and funky I could dance to it forever.

Yep the DIY stuff is ace, as is Hed Kandi, Inland Knights, oh the list goes on...

Anything up to about 140 bpm is  ...faster than that and you're getting into scary hardhouse tidytrax territory

Just as I am drinking my sunday morning coffee I was reflecting on this. I dont really understand the house is boring/samey charge. Like all there is good and bad. I like all sorts of music from alt country to heavy metal and I challenge anyone who likes music of any sort not to find something to love in at least one or more of these (a varied mix of styles and years). Go on do yourselves a favour:

Throw - Paperclip people (Carl craig)
Le Voie le Soleil - Subliminal cuts (Patrick Prinz)
Knights of the Jaguar - Rolando (Underground Resistance)
Robin S – Show me Love
X-Press 2 - Rock 2 House (plastikman’s acid house remix)
A:xus – When I fall in love
Sunscreem – Perfect Motion (boys own remix)
X-press 2 – Muzikism
Layo and Bushwacka - Lovestory
Silicone soul – Right on right on

I believe you should always keep an open mind with all music.

Dissing someone elses musical taste is childish.

Whenever I play out, depending on my mood it can be any riddim, I like to mix 'n match.

Variety is the spice of life after all.
