Can I just point out to you numpties that Jacques Brel is not French - he's Belgian

Sigh. Look, donut, I know that. He sings in French. Good enough? Maybe we should call it the francophone music thread, then.

On ne va pas enculer les mouches, eh mec?

 :D

You may know that, it's my job to enlighten others however

Let us enlighten the great unwashed together then, mon vieux :D

Tous ensemble:

OLD, old school:

Charles Trenet - "Boum" and "La Mer", which was ruined by Bobby Darin. Beyond The Sea, indeed. Pah!

I really like my mom's Charles Aznavour. cheesy 60s pop songs but he's got a great voice. and some of they lyrics are funny!

I know what you mean Rennie, my mum had "She" in the '70s. Bloody hilarious accent and a great song. "La Baraka" is a considerably more bonkers Aznavour album track. Weird Latino dancey thing. Good on drugs.

Babylon Circus
Watcha Klan
La Ruda Salska
Massilia Sound System (they sing in Occitan too..)
High Tone

...all good.

I shall third Alizee (I'll do other things to her given the chance), and also say the rather obvious nomination of Daft Punk. Never hear that much love for DP on U75 but "Homework", "Discovery" and "Alive" are all classics.

What sort of french music do u find yourself singing to work?

if you like rap you could check out assassin, NTM
on the other hand if your after authentic french music listen to la rue ketanuou.
or if your into romantic folk songs francis cabrel is pleasent.

Doc Gyneco

Manau - I like them. Fest Noz de Panam was ace iirc. In fact I might dig it out.

Francoiz Breut is my future wife, so you can listen to her music but that's all. (very good it is too)

ETA: has anmyone mentioned Serge Gainsbourg? If so, good call. If not, SHAME ON YOU!!!

I quite like Isis Project by Guy Chambers. Also, a lovely Edith Piaf choon or two.

Frere Jacques was always a hit :o

From the downloads I've investigated Mylene Farmer's stuff isn't bad. She now co-writes for Alizee.

I remember when I was twelve and watching a music show that was on M6 around mid-afternoon. They showed Mylene Farmer's current music video and there was naked women everwhere. Top of the Pops never seemed the same afterwards.

Just to add, I got Camille's "Live Au Trianon" album and it's even better. Really funny in parts too - you can tell it's really difficult to do and sometimes it starts to go wrong, but everyone's just enjoying it. 'Vous' is class - she starts singing 'Humpty Dumpty' in this ridiculous voice  :D

Their album 'Tostaky' was very much my favourite. The Sober Song being a cautionary and recognisable reflection on the old booze :p

Me head hurts

I believe Krumble is French, very crazy breakcore nastyness and I WILL NOT LET A FRENCH MUSIC THREAD GO WITHOUT MENTIONING THIS MAN.

Django%20Reinhardt.jpg

Django Reinhardt, the best guitarist ever to have walked this planet. Although born in Belgium he spent his life in France and France was where his music was born.

Also, let's not forget this man

A superb violinist and Django's mate in Quintette du Hot Club de France. In fact i'll just put a pic of the whole band here.

All of them amazing musicians, if you've never heard them I strongly urge you to do so.

Ive checked out Camille...

Its nice stuff, really nice She reminds me of everything I love and hate about Parisienees, stylish, incredibly cute, incredibly narcissistic and wearing her learning lightly.

Go in any number of bars in the 11th, 19th or 20th on a Friday and Saturday night and, tiny though they are, they'll be a gonzesse comme ca fronting a jolly group of bereted jack tars all accordioned up.:)
