Can I get a European to UK plug converter easily?

Actually I just checked and europe is 220v so it's not far off and shouldn't be a problem. Still don't like the screwdriver idea though.

Isn't Europe the same voltage though, just a different plug?

ETA The plug that's on it has a built in transformer, that's why I can't chop it off

No. The UK is 240.

I have issues with music gear when I go to Japan or the US. Laptops and chargables like cameras and video cameras tend to be universal.

I don't leave the screwdriver in. I just stick it into the earth hole so that the other sockets open up, ram the plug in and take the screwdriver out. Then turn on the socket.

But I agree it's not ideal and I really don't want the foal to see me doing it as he is big into copying at the moment

I never knew that. But the convertor plugs you get don't have voltage adaptors do they? They are purely just about having the right number of pins I thought.

I've got US appliances which need big fuck off transformers to work here but that's a very different voltage

No they don't. They are for universal voltage items like cameras and laptops etc.

I think most UK and euro stuff can run between 220 and 240. You really should check though - for instance a japanese 100v product rammed into a 240v power supply could create quite a nice fire.

trashy, probably not, but i hope the foal isnt observing you fiddling around with the plugs... :D

Edit- just read your above post

it's an old Yamaha keyboard I've had for about 4 years which my friend gave me after she'd upgraded hers. It's been used plugged into a convertor plug for years with no problems. And I don't leave it plugged in when I'm not using it so if a fire did start, I'd notice.

But in a feat of epic fail, went to the supermarket, bought some frozen food and then remembered about the plug and there wasn't time to go and get it without everything defrosting

So we won't be rocking the casbah this afternoon (probably much to the relief of my neighbours who aren't very impressed by the foal's harmonica playing

I just cut the plug off my computer and connect the wires into the plug then you can use it anywhere but my plug didn't have a transformer and this is an even worse trick for your foal to learn!

Because that converts a 3 pin plug to a 2 pin and I want to do it t'other way round ;)

It provides a 2 pin socket.

I don't know why no one said shaver adaptor before! I have got one from Dyas so me and the foal are going to be rocking out Kilburn this evening

dont feel too bad...if this thread had ended by post #3, i wouldnt have heard about John the Cat getting blown up. :)

True! And in any case, the shaving adaptor didn't work. So I resorted to the screwdriver (while the foal was occupied in constructing tracks) and we have just had a little dance to the salsa beat

Did it not fit, or did it blow the 1 amp fuse ?

It was a bit baggy basically. I had the put the transformer thing on its side because of the way the pins lined up so it wasn't maintaining a connection.

I shall unplug every time I leave the room so we don't all die in the night :)

Ca ne va pas marcher avec mon plug.

Why not? The male in the extension lead is just for show and does not require a female for the plug to work.

If you are worried the hole is too deep and the bulk of your PSU would get in the way then you could do the same as suggested with multiple plug (chop of pluugy end replace with UK one) on one of these http://boutique.fcsi.fr/productDetail.do?offerId=11565969

I'm sure you can get them cheaper - google "rallonge"

I reckon you might have a dud shaver adaptor - I had one myself.

I just tried plugging a UK to foreign adaptor in my good shaving adaptor and it worked fine.

Actually the UK these days is nominally 230V -6% +10% just like the rest of the EU the basically said that all the EU would run from the same voltage and we changed our nominal voltage and increased the tolerance to deal with the differences between countries.

My keyboard has a euro plug and I usually use a screwdriver to plug it in :o but I think that's probably a bit of a dangerous lesson for the foal to learn so I want to get a plug. Can I buy one easily in the UK?

Use the ear bit of your specs/shades. They are plastic and you will feel safer, although the screwdriver is perfectly safe really.

Trust me, I have a post graduate diploma in health and safety.
