It's nothing to be proud of to beat a team like Japan - just look at the height advantage of the Aussies - that would have given them a massive advantage in itself - but they could only equalise after 80 minutes.

Who's proud? I couldn't give a fuck who beat who in this match, I just thought it was pretty amusing that Jpn were winning and lost it all, badly, in the last five minutes!:D

it doesn't give them that much of an advantage any more, otherwise everyone would be shitscared of crouch, ibrahimovic and Klose. they aren't. The days of 'aerialball', at this level, are long gone

ibrahimovic pisses on that lot, amazingly skillful and not too freakishly tall either
maybe he would be better if he was average height

(though he's had terrible form for ages now, seems very early to turn to shit but you never know)

And John Aloisi has just scored a third!!!!

God he was mediocre when he was in England ...

Oi! Aloisi was a legend mate :p We sold him on at a tidy price as well

Well, i'm stoked at the final result, but if Australia play like that against Brazil and Croatia they'll lose both matches by at least 5 goals.

Where was the width in attack? Surely when you've got a solid overall height advantage, it makes sense to send the ball down the outside and cross it into the box? Instead, for most of the game they just tried to lob it forward from midfield and hope for the best. There weren't enough forwards in good position, and they never really set up their attack with any thought.

The Japanese keeper did a great job, making at least three excellent saves that i can remember, and i said to my mates at about the 80 minute mark that he would probably be Man of the Match.

Kewell was crap for the most part; he was really tentative around the ball, and appeared to be playing injured.

Good post mhendo. I was about to mention that the amount of times that the men from Oz gave the ball away cheaply whilst in posession and those tactics that you mentioned dare i say was quite predicatble. The Japanese if they'd had converted the numerous chances they've created from e.g. on the counter attack and better crossing from the flanks. It would have been a different result.

Kawaguchi (i think he'd had a spell with Bolton Wanderers didn't he?) up until that error in the 84th minute had a great game. But i've just had a feeling that he'll make a mistake and he did just that whilst coming from a corner that he's shouldn't have gone for.

But i'll give the Aussies credit because they never gave up and it was no coincidence that Tim Cahill was the man who sparked the comeback and win.
