Can Anyone Else Create this Much Chaos And Beauty With Their Guitar?

Can Anyone Else Create As Much Chaos And Beauty With Their Guitar As Neil Young?

Sorry I fail to see the chaos that you're talking about  I listened to 2 songs and they just seam like fairly middle of the road soft as shite songs played by a guitarist who is good but no better than 1000s of other guitarists on this planet.

I am genuinely perplexed by your assertions but whatever floats ya boat pal :)

e2a: I will concede, however, that rockin' in the free world is class :D
a) which 2 songs?

b) I'm not interested in "good" guitarists.

Neil Young is great. Although his voice can grate sometimes. Needle and the Damage Done is one of my all time faves.

Well in the end I listened to a few more songs and they were the songs you posted up, as you were trying to make a case for his greatness presumably you'd post up his best work? they just didn't really do it for me.

It's not like I think he's really crap I just think there are quite a few other people who have been, and still are, perfectly apt at creating this much beauty and chaos on a 6 stringed instrument, in fact I think there's quite alot of people who are more capable than Mr Young, just my personal opinion like :)

you can't judge neil young on 2 songs! next time you're round mine I will have to educate you!

Well i'm always interested in an education so you'll have to show me the way of young, if there is such a way, based on those songs though I can't see myself being that much more impressed :D

I'm genuinely taken aback, but it's your taste.

Who are those other people, out of interest?

Well definitely Hendrix, Page, Matt Bellamy from Muse (yeah laugh away but I think he's a great guitarist who utilises effects very well :)) i'm sure Tom Morello could do that sort of stuff. I've always held the opinion that there's tons of amazing guitarists out there who are unknown or not that well known and if Django Reinhardt was alive today and playing electric guitars then he would murder them all :D

I think you may be misunderstanding me: Hendrix, Morello and Reinhardt are good, even great, guitarists (Reinhardt is technically the best of your selection), but I wouldn't categorise Young in that way.

Django doesn't do chaos; he does feckin amazing gypsy swing, using only two fingers. He created a style that had a huge influence.

Young, on the other hand, abuses a guitar, wrings a solo out of two notes, but makes a noise that is exactly what is needed for the song.

i reckon Mogwai give him a good run for his money in the chaos-and-beauty-with-guitar stakes. tho there are about 7 of them so it's kind of cheating.

he is ace mind.

I would say that Daydream Nation would be the one to go for to show the full incredible range of what they could get out of a guitar...

I alwas had that down as a very studio album but seeing them play it live was astounding. It wasn't so note perfect that it was just a facsimile of the album but watching how they got all those noises out of their guitars and seeing the number of guitars that they had (different tunings etc.) to do it was extremely cool.
