Can a manager ask someone to "be more girly" at work?

I'm still not claiming that they should wear anything - my original post listing the occupations was simply in response to your post of possible positions that may require a "girly" dress code, and was simply highlighting some of the various roles classed as "adult" industry more generally.

I wish I hadn't bothered now, it's clearly causing some large amount of confusion where previously there had been none.....or something.....

Oh, I didn't mean YOU, I know why you posted it. I was more pondering out loud and wondering if you thought that particular one as odd as I did. If you see what I mean.

Okay. :D

In that case since the subject matter on this thread is now adult...I think we should all strip. See if that helps us to be a bit more sensual and understanding with our posts. :hmm:

*wonders whether we should all be naked when viewing the nakid thread*

Way ahead of you ;)

e2a: damn you, Bluestreak :(

Someone must have to manufacture such items. Yet they are not on the list. It is a curious list.
I would imagine that, in common with many other items for sale in this country, that they are manufactured abroad on the whole and shipped in, before being delivered.

Hence the lack of inclusion of, for example, dildo makers, butt-plug shapers, or lubricant tube operatives, in official government thinking about who needs to be protected when they apply for employment within the field of adult services.

Solidarity for sex swing makers the world over *fist in, err, air*

I'm interested in what she wears. Is it trousers suit-type thing. does she have short hair?

Yep, that's what she wears. She doesn't have particularly short hair though - shoulderlength. And as for you wondering about her position - she's a marketing team leader.

i've met a couple of people who make the brightly coloured dildos for Sh!
and few makers of latex dresses, etc.

they all seemed to enjoy their jobs.

Do you think they mean her personality more than her dress? Like, do they find her too butch or go-getting? Not young enough, or into making tea for the boss? Hope I'm not coming across as a wanker here but I'm interested :)

Did you advise her to send the email asking them exactly what they mean? Apart from being a sensible course of action I am dying to now what they say :D

In terms of the o/p, btw, I think this would arguably be a case of direct discrimination on the grounds of gender, or sex discrimination.

Thompson's says that an example of direct discrimination is when a woman is subject to personal comments about her physical appearance in a way that would not have happened to a man.

i wonder have there been any test cases where air stewardesses asked to wear no makeup / the trouser (male) version of the uniform.

I think there's some kind of ruling about this, cos they get provided with a uniform. I think they can wear trousers though.

An Asian cousin used to get made to wear skin coloured (yeh for a white person!) tights, full make up and bright red lipstick working for BA. :D

Has the OP heard anymore? :)
