Can a manager ask someone to "be more girly" at work?

:hmm: whayousayinbra? :D <my face BOVVERED
if i ever start following the fashions, someone shoot me:eek:

yay! more sense :)

I can see you in a nice gucci dress though mate, it would really set off your eyes :D

Yay? So you are admitting then that in those circumstances it can be justified?

Thing is ... dress codes have to be justifiable and even if there's different treatment (i.e. different expectations for men and women) they mustn't show less favourable treatment if the employer wants to avoid being challenged on discrimination grounds.

We need to know what job this woman is doing, and a photo of her in her current dress, before we are able to make any decision about this.

Lapdancer
Poledancer
Strip-o-gram
Specialist clubs/bars customer facing worker

Struggling to think of any more examples ...
There are quite a few different roles within the adult industry, according to an official consultation from Jobcentre Plus that's going on at the moment:

  • Party Planner (Adult products)
  • Retail (Adult Products)
  • Lap dancing club non-dancing e.g. bar staff, receptionists, managers, DJ’s, supervisors etc
  • Dancers e.g. lap, pole, table, erotic
  • Adult chat line operators and supervisors
  • Models including Lingerie & Nude
  • Warehouse
  • Escorts
  • Masseuse
  • TV channel - Topless
  • Web cam operators/performers
  • Topless/semi nude bar staff
  • Others, including semi nude butler, nude cleaner, kissogram

alot of them don't require 'girly' dress to do the job adequately though

Why is "warehouse" on that list?

Girly dress code wouldn't apply though - they'd be issued with PPE just like any other warehouse worker surely?
I'm still not claiming that they should wear anything - my original post listing the occupations was simply in response to your post of possible positions that may require a "girly" dress code, and was simply highlighting some of the various roles classed as "adult" industry more generally.

I wish I hadn't bothered now, it's clearly causing some large amount of confusion where previously there had been none.....or something.....

That's because you seem to be equating 'adult' dress with being girlie, when it really has nothing to do with it.

I don't think the op is being asked to dress more raunchily?

I understood the point you were making Paulie.

And thus enjoyed many lulz since then.

Where's the harm in getting in the mood/setting the right ambience? ;):D

Okay. :D

In that case since the subject matter on this thread is now adult...I think we should all strip. See if that helps us to be a bit more sensual and understanding with our posts. :hmm:

*wonders whether we should all be naked when viewing the nakid thread*

No i fucking don't. Can't you read? I'm not equating anything with anything. cesare listed some roles that may have required a "girly" (whatever the fuck that is anyway) dress code.

In an idle aside, I highlighted an official government consultation that is currently taking place about advertising employment vacancies in the world of "adult" entertainment, because that expanded on cesare's list of roles.

I made absolutely no claims as to the validity of someone being asked to be more "girly" in their dress, I made absolutely no claims that the positions I highlighted had any kind of bearing on being "girly" or otherwise. It was a fucking list. That is all. The end.
