I wouldn't take a good tent to a festival, it'll get trashed. You can get dead cheap ones these days, so buy a back-up and if it doesn't get trashed you will have a spare.

I'm wondering whether to buy a double airbed rather than using the self inflating matresses.

I've never used an airbed before though. Do they work?

ime no, airbeds don't protect you from the cold in the same way self inflating mattreses do

Also, ziplock baggies for phones and similar once it gets somme-like, so you can still use them. Most drug dealers will sell you one, and once you've cleaned the plant debris out they'll do the job nice.

you want giant bars of chocolate. Dairy milk or Galaxy - something without too much cocoa in - to keep you going. And a pint-or-bigger tin mug for proper filter coffee.

We have an outwell montana 6 and it's fantastic.

Our 2 slept on an air mattress last summer but it was crap and kept going down, meaning there were loads of fights between them as they both kept rolling too close to one another. Think we're just going to go with rollmats this summer as they have lovely 4 season down sleeping bags.

To be honest camping makes the kids so tired they could sleep standing up.

Got a slightly different tent in the end.

It's ace.

We got ready beds for the boys, plus we're going to take their quilts and were given an inflatable mattress for us.

As part of the deal we also got the kids playroom/bedroom to go in the tent, which they love.

We're going to risk it at The Big Chill - I can't be arsed getting another tent now I've got this one. I reckon we'd be pretty unlucky for it to get damaged.

Not sure how wise it is what with it being bank holiday and all, but we're trying it all out this weekend in Norfolk at this place which has been recommended to us by some friends. They let you have camp fires which I understand it pretty rare nowadays.

If going into the wilds , well out of the usual tourist spots I would recommend multi-fuel coolers, they work from gas cylinders, petrol, diesel, or avtur. Something like a Primus Omnilite, they are more expensive, but are quite effective.

Messy as fuck mind if you use unleaded and priming is always exciting, but a god send if your flying somewhere and can't take gas. Still I did two weeks in the Pyrenees with an MSR version and only used 2L of fuel. Bit I really like is that you can keeping adding pressure via the pump, whereas gas you have to deal with it slowly going out.

I stick to gas in the UK for sheer convenience, I'm not brave enough to use it in a tent, like I will with gas, but it's nice to have it in reserve. That said I'm open to offers if anyone wants one as I really don't use it much. It's well maintained and I have 3 fuel bottles for it.

If anyone buys it from me I'll throw 20% of the agreed price to the server fund.

A spark-making device and a tampon will start large numbers of fires instantly even in damp conditions. Camping shops have this type for about £7. It's usually called a Firesteel:

For something even smaller with gearfreak appeal, there's this thing, which uses lighter flints:

It calls itself an EDC Flint and is on ebay for £15.

Personally I take a windproof lighter and fire starting blocks, but I'm lazy like that.
