I was quite impressed by the manager of the power plant who was explaining how they have reduced CO2 emissions. She was making the point that the reason that the plant is the "biggest" polluter is that it is the biggest plant. I got the impression that it was a relatively efficient plant. Does anyone have any data on this? The protesters' spokesperson came across on R4 as a bit "Candice-Marie" out of Nuts in May.
Someone arguing that a better target might have been one of the less efficient smaller stations (which have fewer economies of scale or older tech and emit proportionately more CO2, like Ferrybridge) posted some stats in the comments to Monbiot's Guardian Comment is Free blog on the issue. Unfortunately you will have to wade through quite a bit of hate-filled bile of the "f***ing stinky hippies!" and "Monbiot is a aristo tosser!" variety to get to it.
Any clarity on what they've been arrested for yet?
Reason I ask is that it's probably theoretically possible to charge them with some form of terrorism under the governments very wide new definitions of that term.
i love it! if the swp dont go protesting outside military bases then theyre 'undermining real action that could have stopped the war,' if they praise someone doing direct action, they want on the bandwagon!
