Cameron's Honours list furore

That is rather a modest ambition considering we are already in the 21st century,

I phrased it deliberately, such is its status as an historical anachronism.

Much as I loathe the House of Lords it frequently seems to do a better job of looking after the publics interest than the people we elect.

We could kill two birds with one stone; make the upper chamber accountable and more reform the electoral system to be more representative. I'm willing to concede that, at this stage, there won't be popular support for a republic.

The howls from the press are funny. Its like the Philip Green thing, corrupt capitalists do what they always do, the corrupt capitalist press say 'how awful' and fuck all happens. Saying how awful has a function of supposedly salving the corruption they are all really part of. Honours have always been for flunkies etc. and newspaper proprieters and seniors are very near the top of the list of folk who expect gongs for next to fuck all

Rather change the whole system why don't we just ignore the thing, including not addressing any recipients by their new titles? If he's in front of the select committee again, he should be Mr Green. Likewise, lose a little of The Apprentice's sycophancy by having them say "How far should I bend over, Mr Sugar?".
