Cameron: Fox hunting toff

Why is this news?

Quite. It's been Tory policy for a long time. Indeed it was in the last manifesto:

'We value the diverse nature of our nation and believe in defending
traditional liberties. A Conservative Government will therefore
introduce a Bill, and offer Parliament a free vote, to overturn the
Government’s ban on hunting with dogs.'

I thought the interesting bit was that Dave the Dude was revealed as having been on hunts himself, thus as Ed pointed out, undermining his efforts to distance himself from the old-school, privileged elite Tory party.

And on the matter of fox hunting.... no, it's not the biggest issue facing the nation, but it's a bit sad that in the 21st Century, people still feel that it's acceptable to inflict suffering on animals for their own entertainment. It may be called "hunting", but that's a misleading term, as people generally understand "hunting" to mean killing for food. This ain't that. It's killing for shits and giggles. And the class aspect is interesting, since it's notable that most of the traditional working class "sports" involving animal exploitation (bear baiting, cock fighting etc) were banned long ago.

“If the charge is youth, enthusiasm and energy, I plead guilty.”

Forty two year old David Cameron.

Repealing the ban is just right-wing tokenism, like introducing it was left-wing tokenism. Letting people go-a-hunting again is a distraction that allows Mr Cameron to leave untouched serious left-wing polices like comprehensive schools.

This is so true.....in the grand scale of things it means fuck all.

Yes. As I said, the point that I found interesting was that Cameron had been hunting himself. Not coz it comes as any great surprise, but because it illustrates what bullshit this "common man" persona is.

The League Against Cruel Sports has been banging on for about four years that the Tories will try to repeal the ban if they get in. Unfortunately it seems that nobody listens to the LACS except for actual members of the LACS.

When it comes to Mr Bollinger, even the most deluded "Cameroon" can't have bought that one!

I'd have taken the grounds of cruelty seriously if anti-hunters had moved to ban factory farming at the same time.

Ah, well -- "MPs are spineless cunts" shocker. I'm sure that there are more than a few MPs that don't eat factory farmed meat or are even vegetarian, mind.

I hate cruelty to animals in all forms. I can't understand what mentality you need to set out to hurt an animal because you think it fun.
