Calling all Urban Musicians and Beat Manglers

i personally would prefer it if we were only allowed to use the contributed samples, a) makes it more of a challenge, and b) everyone is in the same boat, as it were. but i'm easy either way.

i agree that we should also have to use all the samples at least once. no excuses :)

Yeah, I'd agree with that; test your mashing up skills... if you can chuck in other samples, there's nowt stopping pple taking a tune they've already done & just bunging in a few extra noises in the form of the new samples. I strongly feel only the supplied samples should be used.

Fuck you all then. ;)

That's why I asked in the original post what would be best. OK, its decided, for the first outing we'll only be able to use the uploaded samples all of which have to be used. No exceptions.

What are we gonna do about hosting though? Does anyone have any Gmail invites?

Also, I'm trying to come up with a theme but so far nothing.

This sounds like it could be lots of fun. Any idea on sample lengths etc?
This raises some important questions actually. Firstly, the obvious one:
1. How long is too long for submitted samples?
but also...
2. Do you have to use the WHOLE sample or can you just take snippets of it and discard the rest?

I reckon that tunes have to use all the samples, nothing but the samples but not be limited to having to use a complete sample. Gives more freedom with tunes and samples so more possibilities.

RIGHT, so it's:

Use ALL the samples at least once.
Use ONLY the uploaded samples.
You do NOT have to use the complete sample.
All samples MUST be .wav files (any complaints?)

We should have a MAXIMUM (sorry, i'm digging the capitals :D) and (possibly?) a MINIMUM sample length. Is it worth setting a standard for the quality of the samples? Is there anything else we're missing?

OK the gmail account is set up:

The address is (thanks hiccup): [email protected]
Anyone can send samples to this address.

If you want the password then PM me.

I will start a new thread tomorrow where the games can begin. Someone please remind me what the rules and regulations are.

Should we say minimum 128kb sample rate?
Should we say maximum 15 second samples? (is that to short?)

Cant wait for this to kick off... just to see if it works.

I'm really looking forward to this :)

"Dirty" eh?

*puts on thinking cap*

Sorry, bit confused about how the gmail thing works. Going to send samples to that address but how do I download the already uploaded samples.

Plus, is there a cut-off date for submission of samples, otherwise the amount will keep on increasing and we'll have to keep downloading the new samples and plugging them into our work.

Does that make sense?

1 or 2 weeks for samples to be submitted with run the competition till the end of the month? Basically, send the sample as an attachment on an email to the gmail account, then to download the other people's samples log in to the account and then you can download the attached files from the emails people have sent in.

I think its worth taking note that people might be unable to log in to the email account temporarily if someone else is currently logged on and downloading the samples.
