i'd love to wear dresses and skirts regularly but when i'm at home with 4 kids under 5 it isnt overly practical, and when i'm at work then its 8 male teenagers with the sexual drive of teenagers, and the cognitive understanding and ability of babies, skirts would be asking for trouble!
Maybe it's because I live in cornwall and we're 10 years behind everyone else but I wear dresses and trousers together :)

People have been dressing like that down here for about 10 years :D

The outfit that gets most positive comments for me is a red £8 dress from asda over some £10 black linen trousers from Tesco

i'd wear that combo out, but it always seems too dressy for work. i'm more of a jeans and hoodie girl tbh

( but i may have to go to new look tommorrow, just to have a look :o )

New Look. Its done is sizes from 8-24 I think, but I'm sure saw a 26. Its not that one on the web site - in fact i can't find it anywhere on their website.

It'll look great on you kali :)

And while we're at it - they've got some wonderful shoes at the mo. And so have Peacocks!

Thanks Felix, Im gonna pop in there on Tuesday!!

I like the dress over jeans thing too.

Unfortunately not many dresses look good on me because my hips are about as wide as an African elephants and yet my boobs struggle to get to an a cup  :( I am, I'm afraid, the poster girl for pear-shape, but not in a good way

But on the plus side, apparently pears are healthier than apples :)

You and me both hon :D Wrap dresses and anything bias cut look dreadful on me.

Tis what the Empire line was invented for! Something with a deep V that flows from under the bust, thus skimming the hips.

Either that, or full on 50s style - tight top, really full skirt. Works a treat. Especially if you throw a pair of fishnets in... ;)

christ, a wrap dress or bias cuts make me run for the hills :D

SS - I'm going to raid your wardrobe I think :D :p

bias cut skirts are the work of the devil on me :o

I was in New Look the other day and realised I'd already tried on the dress felix mentions. It really didn't do anything for me though, just not the right shape.

The shops at the moment seem to be full of strange ugly things in unattractive colours. Still, I suppose we've been lucky in recent years what with the bohemian look and before that the 50s thing, both of which I would wear fashionable or not.

As for pear shapes, Taillissime (the large size section of La Redoute) do some items in three different shapes for women who are top or bottom heavy or evenly proportioned. I had a jacket from there which is great.

I got a nice empire line for a wedding this July. It actually didn't make me look like a trianlge on legs - it was purty :)

Great tip about le redoute too, I didn't know that.

wrap dresses look shite on me too - dunno why. i'm probably not the right shape.

over jeans i wear shift dresses. i love 'em and they look alright on me. :)

Wiskey... I entirely empathise.

I honestly don't remember the last time I wore a dress. Probably I was less than 10 years old.

But I would like to one day.

maybe.

this used to be me until about a month or so ago when I got a well lush dress from Topshop that even has skulls on it. It's kind of gathered under the boob area and then flares out skimming over my wobbly tummy. I've yet to wear it with jeans that hold everything in, but my message is

DON'T DESPAIR ASPIRATIONAL DRESS WEARERS!

Stretchy wrap dresses look shit on me - too clingy.

The one I have is slightly loose crinkly cotton.....much better :)

I don't do dresses either - i'm a pear too. I keep seeing such lovely clothes around but they all seem to have no sleeves or they're too short in the body.

I also have to get straight leg troussers so that they don't cling to my knees  .

I am thinking of a dress over troussers - I used to do this when I first met acid preist - he seemed to like it :D

I wear loads of dresses - mostly because I'm fairly 'boyish' looking and it makes me look a bit more girly, and because flinging on a wrap dress requires absolutely zero effort - it's as easy as putting on a dressing gown and requires no co-ordination of seperate items.

I too am getting more dresses. They are my new thing - that and a slightly unnerving preppy geography teacher thing at work :D

I bought the best dress in London a week ago and I can't wait to wear it somewhere.....

I bought the dress in question last night - in black (the red/green ones seemed to look a bit funny). It looks great, if I do say so myself! Thanks for the advice

i had no idea that wearing dresses had its own language :o

bias? empire? wrap

dont bother to explain btw, i'm really not that interested. just shows the ever widening gulf between wiskers and dresses. i'm happy with that.

It's just cuts, wiskey - like with jeans you get flared, bootleg, straight or drainpipe.

And you must be a teensy bit interested - just a little bit!? :p :p And what the fuck are you doing up at 4am woman?!
