Call to change National Anthem

Urbanblues said:
'Fiesta', by the Pogues; that'd make a fine foot-tappin' ye-hawing national anthem - and, the lyrics would have as much relevance as the words to ‘God Save…’

 Was worried but Shane MacGowan was born in Tunbridge Wells and Jem Finer, Stoke on Trent, excellent

ETA: Human beatbox is optional, I'm sure the FA can afford a mixing desk from Maplin with which to mix vocals with the Offical National Anthem Download
We are talking a 21st Century Anthem

Underworld's - Born Slippery..

You can imagine it.. England lined up before a major qualifying game giving it..

"shouting.. lager, lager lager.."

Terrify the crap out of the opposition..

God Save the Queen? The Scots and the Welsh don't sing that.

God same the Queen is the British anthem not an English one.
The Scots, Welsh, and the Cornish have unofficial anthems they sing, but the English don't.

We could and it would be very good:

And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen?

And did the Countenance Divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among these dark Satanic mills?

Bring me my bow of burning gold!
Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear! O clouds unfold!
Bring me my chariot of fire!

I will not cease from mental fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand
Till we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land.

-- William Blake

Can we change it to 'dark Satanic office blocks' - just to bring it up to date a bit?

Knew it would drift towards an England anthem, that's a different question.

Not a problem, "Fiesta" overcomes the on topic hurdles currently cited ; Is British composed; not going to date through being tied to one type of synth; I know I said doesn't need to be played live but could be easily for orchestrated for both military band or even full orchestra - imagine that with a snug set of lyrics at the last night of the proms;kicks the shit out of La Marseillaise; works with sporting events for sporting events such as motor racing or olympics where they just play the backing track; and (never seen that Bill Bailey clip before, ta) even has scope for Britain's idiosyncratic nature: could juxtapose lyrics of quiet celebration over the first verse and rousing tenacity over the second....Will be a tough one to beat.

I think we are ahead of any tinkering by committee effort that is doomed to fail.

Next question should be: does anyone know if Mike Batt/ Guy Chambers and/ or Humphrey Littleton like biscuits?

This is a ridiculous thing to argue over, but I have to say the Welsh National Anthem is official, it is performed at official events.

I presumed God Save the Queen was English because the English footy and rugby teams sing it. I suppose it's a usual case of for Britain see England.

Perhaps there could be an English anthem celebrating proper working class history in England, not monarchy bollocks.
