Buying/adding more RAM?

Sunspots

what's my mission now?...
Please advise a know-nothing about his computer !...

I'm currently using:

System:

XP
Pro
Version 2002
Service Pack 1 (:o)

Computer:

AMD Athlon XP2600+
1.92 Ghz
192 MB of RAM (:o)

As you can imagine, things get infuriatingly slow, and I realise that (-in the immediate term) I need to add some more RAM.

When I asked for advice from the bloke who fixed my computer last time, he scribbled down:

RAM type DDR (266MHZ)
PC2100

I've looked on that Crucial website, and I'm not sure what I ought to be looking at buying.

I've only got about £25/30 to spare. Can I buy 1 x 1GB and add it to what I've already got, or should I just chuck what I've already got in the slot and buy 2 x 512MB? :o

Ta in advance for any helpful advice. :)

Chuck what you have an buy two lots of 512mb. Invariably they have to be the same in each slot (but not always) but it will save you a whole load of potential bother.

second thoughts why not buy one stick of 1gb. Then you have the option to double it with the spare slot when you upgrade your OS.

Thanks.

Ok, there'll be no more questions from me about this 'til I've bought some and am actually trying to fit it... :o :D

Just remember that it does actually require a good solid push to be seated in the slot properly. Make sure it clicks in. First time I fitted RAM I thought I was going to break the motherboard :)
