Guinness World Records are still awaiting proof of birth for the former barrow boy from Vauxhall who claims to be the oldest person running the marathon this year at the age of 101.

I saw him in Brixton High Street the other week. Wasn't sure whether he was a bit pissed or knackered, but now I know he's running the marathon, I've decided maybe he was just knackered

That's very true, but there's a lot of us a lot younger who can't do it, myself included (or has absolutely no intention of ever doing it)

Guinness World Records had refused to verify his claim to be the oldest marathon runner. Now it has emerged why the world record guardians will not be featuring Mr Martin in its celebrated publication. Internal correspondence between senior officials at the organisation, obtained by The Times, shows that Guinness has evidence that Mr Martin is not as elderly as he claims but is a mere spring chicken of just 94 years old.
