Busted v Elastica

I think my point was that Blink182 will always be adjudged to be better, or "more worthy" than Busted by some because they come from a more independent background. I don't think Busted were ever marketed to the skate-punk audience, but as an alternative type of boyband to say Westlife, who had dominated the post-Take That years. Busted's songs were brilliantly laden with pop hooks, but because they played guitars they were viewed from a different angle. This may sound ridiculous to some, but lyrics apart there were similarities with the Buzzcocks or early Ash.

But I'd rather listen to NOFX, or Rancid, or the Ataris or...

Well, NoFx anyway. Rancid i like the odd tune, but i find it impossible to take them seriously, it's all a bit lame.

Mind you, if you want to be really offended, take a listen to Tom DeLonge's Angels and Airwaves project.

With the hiatus of pop-punk superstars blink-182 in full effect by the fall of 2005, singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge revealed the formation of his new band -- one he'd already been working with for six months -- Angels and Airwaves. With the notoriety of his previous group, much hype ensued after the announcement: In interviews with outlets like mtv.com, DeLonge proclaimed (among other things) that the new music would take elements of bands like U2 and Pink Floyd and ultimately be something of a revolution to change the face of rock & roll forever.

Sure?

:D

With elements of U2 and Pink Floyd, that might be for the best...

It sounds like Jean Michel Jarre doing Peter Gabriel. All the worst bits of Prog, plus all the worst bits of stadium rock. Definitely one to avoid. I know of someone who likes it, too.

:)

Oh yeah. Soz. Seems a long time ago, that.

I'd wager that a lot of people could mention bands they think aren't contrived, but whether or not anyone would agree with them or not is a different matter.

This thread prompted me to look up where Justin Frischmann is now and according to Wikipedia:

Justine is now studying visual arts and psychology at Naropa University.

In 2005, she helped her flatmate M.I.A. by co-writing all the first demos for her album. She cowrote the music on M.I.A.'s single, "Galang". She has also produced demos for the band White Rose Movement.

Who'd have thought it...
