Busted v Elastica

nah they were marketed as "new wave of new wave"... and their posh background was never hidden... it was just bubblegum trashy indie rock, cool.

Well, Justine's posh background. Don't think Donna, Justin and Annie were especially posh tbh.

How can public school educated daughters of famous architects be trashy, strikes me as they were spoiled brats who the press loved cos they were in with the in crowd at the right time Justine was with Albarn from Blur at the time, no duobt he helped them out, at the same time in Manchester there were some fuckin brilliant bands who never saw the light of day cos they didnt have the 'contacts' that Elastica had:)

why can't they amke a trashy noise?

i fucking hate classism in music. i don't think elastica ever pretended to be anything they weren't. not like that mockney twat albarn.

that's rock n roll.

who fucking cares about musicians' backgrounds anyway? they either make good music or they don't, I don't give a shit about their upbringing.

and northerhord mate, the music industry has always been about contacts. always. it fucking sucks, but that's jst how it is.

I dont care about the bakcground of musicians in most cases, but when they are being penned as something else I do:)

i have to say they would you listen to posh Mc's chatting over drum and bass.
Actually there was a coupla posh stoods in clifton who tried this, the results were fuckin hilarious

where were elastica described as anything else though?

right research time, i've got a load of old NMEs from the time here, i'll see if i can put this to sleep.

Elastica was a perfect album, they didn't need to do another one.

Line Up, Connection, Blue, Waking Up, 2:1, Vaseline and Stutter are all brilliant

It was never really a secret that Justine was from a very well off background though was it?

I read the NME and MM every week then and her history was well known. She never tried to be anything else either, I can't remember her trying to pass herself off as working class.

So your bitterness is based entirely on the fact that one of them went to a posh school and they were more successful than some other bands?

Nothing to do with the music then.

Yeah - i mean you could say the same about The Clash.

right, well, i cannae be arsed to go much further, but in a positive live review 1/04/95 it is stated how the damon connection probably helped their case, and in a positive interview 10/06/95 they are described as 'public school punk'. so *shrug* make of that what you will.

A bit like the fact that how hot Justine is, is nothing to do with the music either  ;)

yeah, it helps though...

not that she minds "i can't think of anything better than 16-year old boys wanking and looking at a picture of me" justine freschmann.

I dunno.. they we're probably the 4th best band around at the time.. That's if you discount Radiohead.

tbh, i reckon they were a lot further down than 4th.

listening to them now. not aged badly at all though. and at least it's still listenable, unlike 1994's best album, the holy bible, which requires a lot of work.

I dunno.. I can barely remember 4 bands (not talking bleepy fuckers)

Blur
Oasis
Pulp
Elastica
Radiohead
Suede (all ready shite)
Menswear
Manic Street Preachers - not exactly Britpop

Err, who else?

Yes.. okay.. but most of those were perennials.. gene and sleeper are the only ones which really count as "Britpop".. imo
