Bus stops

This was done in London before the cc tax was started, lots of roads were blocked off at one end. Many parking spaces were removed and the traffic lights were changed to give longer gaps between shorter green phases, creating a logjam of cars at the lights and the impression of worse congestion.

As far as I understand it in the mind of common purpose planners this is a "good thing" because it makes driving more unpleasant and in theory people will then happily flood on to buses which "speed" along in empty bus lanes.

Best thing is to smash the traffic lights and let every thing flow nicely again

Brothers! Overthrow the oppressive shackles that bind us! May the people go in freedom, all go at once, and may they crash into one another in a glorious explosion of liberty!

Getting this back on to transport.....

So they you have it, my deduction. The Police now work for the council and the council are more concerned about official unveiling of a now vastly inefficient road link to ensure congestion charging can be unveiled in the next 5 yrs.

Is 'C' charging on the agenda for Bristol? I know Manchester is proposing it, and it ain't popular. Indeed it's a very unpopular idea generally outside the M25.

Congestion charging was also very unpopular in London before it was put into operation.. But that's besides the point, Yes, Bristol has received goverment funding to look into congestion charging. Don't know any more than that though.

The council said in March last year that a questionnaire had showed support for a congestion scheme. Council leader Barbara Janke said: "We have to do something about congestion - and this is it."

Any scheme would be closely linked to big improvements in public transport.

Are you on about the new bus lanes at the bottom of Old Market? I like them, but then I am a bus user.
