Bus and tube fares to rise :(

I have an Oysrter prepay, because I don't use public transport every day by any means.

What I can't work out is, how much are bus and tube fares supposed to be going down (as has been stated in this thread  ) for Oyster card holders??

And is there a differential between changes for Oyster Travelcard holders, and Oyster prepay holders?

Cheers to any experts out there :)

Travelcard costs for next year haven't been unveiled yet.

There is no difference between being on a Oyster travelcard or pre-pay. Oyster is Oyster. One can choose to have both operating on the same card.

You can find the new fares on the TfL website I think.

there are lots of pedastals going in at bus stops, you don't notice them as the machine aren't on top of them yet...there's one outside our flat, I only realised the other day what it is going to be.

It all coincides with no more routemasters :(

well, as I said, not everywhere as far as I can see. some local bus stops, used not by one but two bus routes, don't have these pedestals.

A Zone 1 single tube ticket using Oyster pre-pay is going down from £1.70 to £1.50.

Single bus fares on Oyster will remain frozen.

AFAIK, there are no plans to introduce differential pricing for travelcards bought with Oyster rather than on paper, although of course not all travelcards can be bought on paper any longer anyway.

I really need this explaining to me in words of one syllable.

Is there no difference? If I had prepay I could put a tenner on it, and it might last me all week, 'cos public transport comes secondary to my bike (and if the person who nicked said bike from outside the Chinese on Friday is reading, you're fucking low).

Anyway, a tenner a week is a substantial saving on a Travelcard. However, I can't just have prepay, 'cos a number of the places I travel between are suburban overland stations, which won't take it.

I don't take the Tube much, either. Maybe twice a week. Buses more so.

I don't possess an Oystercard. Can anyone here convince me it will be in my best interests to do so?

Even using the tube and buses only 2 or 3 times a week, getting a prepay Oyster will pay for itself in only a few weeks, once the new prices come in to effect. You only have to get over the 3 quid fee for the physical card.

Giles..

fucking daft cunty New Cross/Gate tube stations can't top up oyster cards because they're "a train station". That happens to have fucking underground trains coming in. And which daft wanker rolled out brand new ticket machines that (1) won't accept new debit/credit cards with the curved edges and (2) won't top up oyster cards? rant over.

Well, which daft wanker rolled out credit cards with curved edges?

It's an international thing, been going on for years. Naturally, it will take the UK about 10 years to catch up, like chip&pin and petrol forecourt card payment etc.

Thanks. That sounds like half a reason to get one. It doesn't address the rail travel situation, though. I s'pose no-one can do that, except Livingstone, and he doesn't seem to be in too much of a hurry.

The situation at New Cross sounds ludicrous.
