Is this still valid?
Why the £3 deposit??![]()

Not quite in the billions.oicur0t said:london buses are already very heavily subsidised, a few billion iirc
Curiously, it’s not easy finding figures for the collective profits of bus operators. The amount of GLA Transport grant allocated to London Buses to bridge the gap between fare box income and the cost of providing the service was around£200m in 2001/02. According to TfLs business plan this is budgeted to rise to around £300m in 2002/03 and is planned to rise to around £500m in 2004/05

Callie said:Has everyone totally forgotten that under 16s get on the buses free now? You have to pay for that somehow, not that Im saying thats why theres been a fare increase.

Callie said:What that thousand of people are allowed to travel on Londons buses for free? I thought it was quite a new arrangment![]()

nino_savatte said:Organise a mass boycott now!!!!! I'm sick to fucking death of these annual fare increases. There is NO need for them. How many other cities increase public transport fares year upon year as London does? Not many I'd wager. Spo what do we do? We moan and groan and pay our fares...it's time to fight back!!!!!![]()
Fuck tfl and Ken fucking Livingstone!
nino_savatte said:No, it's true...Callie didn't read my post, rather he/she read something into it. But that's the "I'm alright Jack mentality" that's done this country proud for so many years.
Callie said:erm your the one whos reading something it - are you saying I have an Im alright Jack mentality? what are you basing this on?
That is NO excuse: this happens every year. It's robbery by any other name.
What that thousand of people are allowed to travel on Londons buses for free? I thought it was quite a new arrangment

it means i was joking! christ
you havent answered my point about the 'im alright jack mentality', what has that got to do with anything? were you talking about me and my attitude?
Are you one of the "thousands" who travel for free on the buses?
nino_savatte said:Until increases are sneaked past you that is. You still cannot use Oyster pre pay on National Rail services in Greater London. There is only one reason for this: the greed of the rail operators. If they could possibly get away with it, they would refuse monthly Oyster too.
nino_savatte said:You appear to have taken the position that because some people get free travel, it's tough shit for the others. You weren't terribly clear.
Callie said:National Rail are private companies and are not covered by London Transport. Buses, DLR, the tube and trams are all part of LT. An oyster card is an LT pass at the moment. Many train stations have oyster readers installed but theyre not functioning - I think people may be able to get season type tickets available as an oyster card.
Callie said:Im not taking that position at all, I just mentioned that it was a recent event that Under 16s get to travel for free on buses/tram (and DLR?? not sure about that one). Do you think this could happen at no cost?
nino_savatte said:If that is the case then why are monthly Oyster cards accepted on National Rail services...despite the absence of card readers? If they are "LT passes" as you say, then the fact that they are "property" of LT rather than rail tickets means that they should not be used either. Actually I can get a monthly travel card put onto my Oyster pre pay but they have no way of knowing this unless they have those portable reader things.
my local station had big posters up saying they couldntnino_savatte said:Organise a mass boycott now!!!!! ...it's time to fight back!!!!!![]()
nino_savatte said:And my point was this happens every year regardless. The under 16's scheme is a straw man.
