burn, witch, burn!

Pbman, kids requesting to be admitted into Hogwarts is about as significant and worthy of concern as those same kids writing to santa claus; they will grow out of it.

And grow into what?

Sacrifisng satan worshipers?

I was always taught the books were to be repected and looked after. They are works of art and represent the collective knowlege of humanity.

So, no - I don't approve of book burning. It's as silly as banning, imo.

And probably isn't very good for the atmosphere, either.

Do believers in Santa grow up to be elf worshipers, or spend their lives researching the aerodynamic properties of reindeer?

You haven't shown that there is any connection between reading Harry Potter books and becoming satanists. So just like kids writing to Santa the small minority of kids who actually think the stoies are real will eventually realize its fiction. In all likelyhood the parents were just indulging the kids fantasies by allowing them to write J.K. Rowling.

Yes, we have more impotant thngs to do than worrry about pedantic things like spelling.

You mean like worrying that people who read Harry Potter books might turn in to Satanists?

get real.

In case it has escaped your notice one has to be a Christian to become a Satanist.

So come on, show us your evidence if you have any.

Or are you just another looneytunes sheep who believes everything they're told by the minister?

no you don't.

To believe in Satan surely you have to believe in the mythos surrounding him (you know, the whole G-d and jesus thang)?

I'm not talking about the Laveyan numpties or even the more serious-minded Benelists (who don't call the fella "Satan" anyway).

And just for once could you elucidate in your reply instead of your peremptory and uninformative "no you don't" and it's ilk?

Someone better tell Anton LeVay ;)

Anton LaVey wasn't a "Satanist", he was a tedious sexual adventurer with a minimal interest in the occult who used the idea of "Satanism" to start a cult and get laid more often than he otherwise would have.

His entire "Satanic" philosophy was a hodge-podge of pop-psychology and ideas culled from more worthy occult practitioners.

Devil worship. Interesting.

What does it have to do with "Satan" and "Satanism"?
the yezidees were barred from service in the ottoman army because they were reputed to be satanists. if you say the word 'satan' in front of a yezidee three times, they are duty-bound to beat you to death, or die in the attempt.

did you bother reading the article? if you did, you obviously failed to read it closely enough.

try again.

Don't waste your growls on me.

You might scare the timid with your belligerence, but it merely has a (scant) comedic value as far as I'm concerned.

Why would an article which mentions the word "Satan" 8 times in the entire text, mostly with reference to abduration of same be worth "reading closely"?

"Devil worship" and "Satanism" are not, of necessity, the same thing.

Reputed? Like Jews were reputed to drink the blood of babies mediaeval Spain, you mean? Hardly germane to "Satanism".
And one would have thought that anyone who feels obligated to kill you for mentioning the name of Satan (something your text refers to as being "beyond the pale") is anti rather than pro.

And the Beast did arise. And the Beast spoketh the name PBman. And the assembled hoards did raise their weapons before him. And there spouted forth a fountain of love for the treachery spoketh of. And all told magick breathed again on the rancid Earth and where there had been order now there was goo. And PBman saw that it was good. Ane the evening and the morning were the first day of the new dawn.

And the Beast did cometh again. And PBman was again covered in goo. And PBman allowed himself to be raised aloft and nailed unto the cross. And the assembled hoards did again perform all kinds of abhominations upon him. And PBman saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the second day of the new dawn.

And God who is merciful looked down upon His fallen servant and wept. He Spoketh to His former servant and He said "Why hath thou foresaken me? Do looketh upon yourself in this mirror and see how stupid you look covered in goo." PBman did look upon himself and saw the goo. He saw that it was good. And the evening and morning were the third day of the new dawn.

And the Beast did licketh PBman clean and spoketh "now you will be clean for your God to whom you were once a loyal servant that He may again choose you to be His slave." And PBman did thanketh the Beast for giving him free choice. And God did come upon him when he did least expect it, but there was no goo, for God was not into that kind of thing. And God did speeketh to PBman. "Now you are clean you may again be my loyal slave." And the evening and the morning were the fourth day of the new dawn.

And God did put PBman to good wholesome honest work. And PBman did tire of his chores and did yearn for the goo. And PBman did rip his garments from him and did beat himself with brambles but could not make the yearning stop. And PBman did remember the passages from Harry Potter that first awakened the desires to tread the path that did lead to the goo. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day of the new dawn.

And on the sixth day PBman did rise. And God Spoketh to PBman "my word that should not be on public display." And PBman did wave his magicians wand and sparks did fly. And all around was covered in goo. And God saw that it was good. And the Beast did cometh among them and all the World was covered in goo. And PBman saw that it was good...

PBman woke in a pool of sweat. He had had that dream again. The dream with the goo. The dream that had plagued him since he first read those awful and depraved passages with tales of Hermoine and broomsticks and wizardry. How could he cleanse himself now that he had read this evil work, how could he rid his mind of the secret desires he had for Hagrid? He knew he must burn the book, dispose of the temptation within, for there and only there lay the path to Salvation.

No doubt they did buy them.

So what do you care what people do with their own property?

Their just making a public statement, like the many protestors here on urban.

Do you have a problem with protest, or do you only support the right people protesting the right causes. :p

So i take it you have no problem with people buying and burning American flags then?
