Burn After Reading

Hmm, OK but nowhere near Fargo. Was quite good watching it with other people in the cinema laughing together at certani scenes but I thought I'd seen the quircks before (in Fargo) and done better (in Fargo). Fargo had classic scenes too umerous to mention but this is all a bit forgettable.

I really enjoyed it - it wasn't anything more than a daft caper with a dumb McGuffin, but they never pretended it was anything more :)

Exactly.
Saw it last night & enjoyed it a lot.
It had some great laughs & Malkovich was hilarious.

I was under no illusions about it. It's a Coen fun filler film - a little parlour piece if you like, and if you go in with this in mind then it's fine.

(And it's a million miles more enjoyable & funnier than some of the other 'fun' guff that get made: Ocean's 11/12..., Welcome to Collinwood, etc).

I really enjoyed it, light relief and turn-off-the-brain enjoyment. They've been doing this sort of thing since Hudsucker, I wouldn't get too arsy about it.

Saw it this evening. It was ok - but after seeing NCFOM it felt a bit of a let down. George Clooney really is good though. Brad - not so much.

Malkovich was spookily like Richard Wilson - It was one foot in the Coens?

YES! that's what I was thinking throughout.:D

Eventually got round to seeing it this afternoon, This is the first Coens film I've ever seen - it took me a while to get into it but once I did I loved it.

i loved it, i thought it was the best thing i'd seen in ages

is there something wrong with my sense of humour?

Ooh I saw it last night & loved it too. Went with my brother and my boyfriend and probably wouldn't have seen it but wanted something my brother and I might both like. It was ace! Had had a really long day at work and it did the job at distracting me and making me happy again, nicely.

Very funny, very cool. 9/10!

I thought it was a bit more. It is a clash between dumb aspirationalism, dumb snobbery, dumb selfishness, dumb nostalgia and dumb bureacracy. So it targets nearly everyone in society, and with its deliberately dissatisfying ending it seems to become quite satirical.

Maybe I just shouldn't smoke when I'm watching films:hmm:

CIA Superior: What did we learn, Palmer?
CIA Officer: I don't know, sir.
CIA Superior: I don't fuckin' know either. I guess we learned not to do it again.
CIA Officer: Yes, sir.
CIA Superior: I'm fucked if I know what we did.
CIA Officer: Yes, sir, it's, uh, hard to say
CIA Superior: Jesus Fucking Christ.

I was sober and I thought that too, you werent just smoking. Critique of people taking the intelleigence community too seriously. Maybe Im reading too much in. Still I thought it was OK, goof fun, loved the combination of quite funny storyline and then the viewer getting hit by the unexpectedly violent scenes, didn't see the 1st killing coming at all, also the second killing with the axe was really dark considering the rest of the film.

No sympathetic characters? I didn't particularly like the Gym manager but he seemed OK and quite sensitive, not an arsehole like the rest.

Going to see this tonight, and am really looking forward to it.

We get films a fair bit later at the Saffron Screen. :D

I thought it was entertaining mishmash, had some funny moments too. Like when the girl is finally picked up by the spooks

'entertaining mishmash' sounds about right :)
enjoyed it, but it's no lebowski
