Burgled

Getting burgled sucks big dog's balls

Are the building internals maintained by the council? 'cos you could insist they put steel sheeting over your ceiling ....

Well, it's a very good idea and I guess I could try, but this is Lambeth I'm dealing with.
Insisting never seems to work...

I'm so sorry this has happened. I've been burgled twice before and it feels horrible. Thieving gits - hope they get what they deserve.

yeah, shame they didn't fall through the ceiling and land on something hard

Indeed. I'd like to think that their bad karma will mean that they have some kind of a nasty accident soon. Not resulting in death you understand... just multiple injuries, perhaps a lost limb... :p

Were you happy with that?

Actually, I was.

I'm right pissed off now though 'cos I've just had a gas leak and had to have it all switched off, so I've got no hot water, heating or cooker...

Arghhh!!! :rolleyes::mad:
'snot my week, is it? :D

Heh, parts of Brixton are so riddled with groundwater that with any luck the burglars would drown! :D

or Aurora's flat would sink

I think we'd better stop panicking Aurora :o

Sorry

I'm actually really impressed with the police today. They saw how old and knackered the car was and still spent about an hour getting the prints.

Well the gas is finally back on, but now the real battle begins.

Lambeth sub contractors say they'll come to put a metre square piece of plasterboard onto my ceiling in two weeks time.:(

I ring the council to query this, saying it's not a good enough solution, what about all around the light fitting etc?
They say something about how the burglars must of come in through my fire escape hatch, which btw I DO NOT have.

I patiently point out that they've got the wrong end of the stick, my flat is different to what they are imagining...
Of course I am not allowed to speak to anyone directly. No names or extention numbers can be given out at any costs...the meter square patch up with have to do....I end up in tears, 'cos now the stress in getting to me.

I'm told my houising officer will ring me back eventually. I'm not holding my breath.

That's shit, poor you. :(

Someone tried to break into our flat on Saturday afternoon, while we were away. Luckily yossarian and etnea were flat sitting and chased them off.

Oh that is so shite :(

I was burgled exactly the same way when I lived in Stoke Newington - they used the empty house next door to get on to the roof.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

pxx

Really sorry to hear about your troubles, aurora. Lambeth really are crap sometimes (sometimes? most of the time).

Kinnell aurora! :(

Had missed this thread and developments ... :(

You did not mention it at RTF ...

Hope all is getting sorted and that you're staying strong, any help you may want etc etc.

See you soon x :)

That's terrible aurora (missed this latest bit last night, sorry). :(

This is nothing like how Southwark operate. Lambeth make no prior inspection before making decisions? Decisions made without consulting you properly and without checking the situation on the ground? Southwark have their flaws but do not in my experience act like this ...

It's an absolutely disgraceful way to operate. I really hope that you succeed in hassling them (not that you should have to!).

Lambeth need lots of kicks up the arse and could learn a few lessons from their neighbouring boroughs.

Hope today is much better for you aurora, look after yourself! :)

Hard to believe, but this is exactly how Lambeth are operating.

I asked yesterday if someone could come around to inspect the damage and see exactly what needs to be done, but was told this wasn't possible, that the sub-contractors would 'make good' and I should wait until it's done before I make further contact with them.
So there's nothing I can do, except wait two weeks till they come and fit the meter square piece of plasterboard they have been instructed to.
Maybe I'll be suprised and they'll mange to somehow fit it around the light fitting and leave me with a smooth secure ceiling...

I'm trying not to get wound up about it anymore (well yet) because it's stressful enough thinking about the burglary and the fact that I do not feel safe in this flat anymore.

I am totally ok though, just really want everything returned to 'normal' asap. so I can just forget about it all iykwim.

Hey, I won't dwell on stressful stuff :o

But as you well know, better than me, there are loads of political issues for Council tenants about this sort of thing. Two weeks wait is not good ... but worse-sounding to me is all this subcontractor shit. It's privatisation gone maaad ...

In Southwark, a lot of the repair contracts were taken back in house a while back ("Southwark Direct", who now also have back the street cleaning and rubbish collection contracts too. They're not too bad overall).

From what you're saying, an awful lot more of Lambeth work is put out to privatised contractors.

Which is why I fear you probably still will need to keep hassling your NHO, because privatised contractors IME and IMO are not all that trustworthy or reliable at all (largely cos of the cost cutting pressures imposed on them by the Council). I'm sure you're more than enough aware of this in 'public service reform'** obsessed Lambeth!

**ie privatisation, penny pinching, wage cutting, resident service reduction oriented 'reform' :(

Sorry to bang on, but as a tenant, all this is a bit of a political hobby horse of mine. But you have the right instinct yourself (as ever) -- you're not letting it get to you, not letting the bastards grind you down!

Defend Council Housing!! ;)
