bunking into festivals

I think there are possibilities for infiltration everywhere, you just need the balls to do it.

I reckon lots of kids/teenagers still do it. :)
this is true. but they also get in free up to a certain age and exploit that to the max.

pssst - over here

see what you do is ring up the people who make wristbands and ask for some samples and wola - instant AAA. Plus its a good idea to get a walkie talkie and shout angerly into it.

As you were

I was considering giving some tips,

thought better of it. ;)

I like that one though.

*shrugs* - Even if 'they' know about it there's f-all that can be done to stop it. :D
depends who 'they' is though doesn't it;)

but yeah, walkie talkie, muddy flouro jacket, work boots no rucksack (tool belt?), and the phrase 'you're having a laugh aren't you mate, I fucking built this fence / site... sorry I've got to get the mainstage power on in 30 minutes or it's all going to go tits'

something along those lines, though knowing the name of the crew boss, and preferably a member of the crew who looks like you probably helps too... but fuck it, if you're going to those lengths you may as well come and work.

it'd never work with me like, I have my methods of sussing blaggers out, but I'd also probably offer you a working blag if I thought you'd not be a liability, or turn a blind eye if I didn't think it was a problem, you seemed sound and weren't being a twat.

In can be as simple as walking confidently. No need for any chit chat or fluoro jackets.
I've walked into a fair few gigs, festys and backstages unchallenged over the years...... mostly just to see if I could tbh. :)

Jumped or plain walked into a few festivals last year and felt guilty about a couple of the smaller ones. Tbh Glade was a piece of piss and I was glad I didnt pay as the volume levels were set by someones gran and the security were arseholes.

In your face corporate festivals! I'll always be glad to jump in where facelessness has taken hold.

Festies like the 7th Sun and Secret Garden are a different matter but its the attitude of the organisers that makes the difference.

ern yeah, we had a few bigger things to worry about last year than a few peeps blagging in I reckon.

volume levels - apart from overkill I thought they were pretty sorted last year?

security - any specific incidents? I know there were a few security who took the piss, and the glade team were too caught up in other stuff to keep them in check, but my impression was that it was just a few isolated security and better than the year before? If you know of anything specific then please let me know and I'll pass it on as the glade team really have been trying to sort the security out.

I dont think I've ever paid to get in to a festival... I've always blagged the laminates and spent the money on drugs instead.

By contrast, it took me until my 13th Glastonbury (this year) to get a working blag.

It's not really a blag, I'll genuinely be working and working hard, but I'll get a lot of time off, a laminate, access to crew food and facilities, and my money back -- so long as I do my shifts (but I'm proper responsible these days ... :p ).

Oh and I got a blag into Bestival last year for the last two days of it, but the person who had the pass allocated originally didn't turn up and thus there was a space on the list, so a fellow Urban helped me out :)

That one was all in the interests of taking Deb (already there) by romantic surprise :)

Prior to last year though, I've always paid my way (or gone to free ones ;) ).

last festie I can remember paying into was phoenix festival in around 96, though I think someone paid me in to knockangorah (sp?) a couple of years back in exchange for me minibus driving both ways.

I guess you did if the volume levels and security were anything to go by

That is admirable and I know that its a difficult job getting security who dont have rambo fantasys.

The worst of the incidents I saw concerned someone who was admittedly selling K, but he got rugby tackled, body slammed whilst on the floor, and had his arm bent round behind his back so that he was crying out in obvious pain for an uncomfortably long and unneccesary amount of time.

A number of people were shocked into taking footage on their phones which the security then systematically erased by forceful means off at least 5 of them.

If they weren't overstepping the mark then why take such measures. It wasn't the only incident but it was the worst.

Glade lost alot of what made it special last year for me and alot of my friends. I hope you find the spirit to pull it back round.

P.S. Volume levels were very terrible I actually managed to have conversations with people approaching the front of a couple of stages. Dance music needs to be LOUD or it loses its edge. I could find any number of party people who could email you and tell you last year was too quiet.

hello people i have to say im all for bunkers!! ive built the big stage tents for numerous festivals both in the uk and in europe and one thing ive learned is that theres a bloody lot of celebraty bunkers who get pr people and record labels, radio stations to foot the bill and give them a undeserved ticket while poor joe blogs has spent 48 hrs on the internet registering 50 times at all his families address's just to get a ticket!!!

People power...thats what we need..... i remember when so many people were on the fence at a festival that the security had to just watch!!!!!

As for glastonbury being cancelled yes they could well cancell it but dont you think the enterprising crustys wouldnt set up a unlicenced fest in its place which would cause more grief to local residents!!!!

I used to bunk regularly and whilst working have let people in (only if they are nice polite people not chavy scum!!! if they are chavs i take great pride in reporting them)

So my solution to all this is to lower ticket price and drop the corporate sponsers!!! to be honest if i could bunk a corporate gig like v festival i bloody would ......hee hee

all the best thanks for the little rant...
