Build me an ultimate early 80's pop mix

T
Reward - Teardrop Explodes
Everyday i write the Book - Elvis Costello
The Stranglers

Reckon these are in.

I have pretty much everything The Stranglers have done....Would probably choose Skin Deep over Duchess for their "pop" showing...

How many tunes did you say you wanted, Swarfega? :D

The '80s were pretty good really, and this is just pop music.

What happened? :(

Hm - I actually thought they were slightly earlier than that!

I am sticking to my guns so...West End Girls it is.
are you kidding? it should well be opportunities - it's the archetypal yuppie anthem.

have you got another one bites the dust in there yet?

Oi!

Kid Creole and the Coconuts - Annie I'm not your Daddy

Has all the early 80s pop ingredients and has aged very well. Not many people would think to make a chorus out the word Onomatopoeia

"Ona Ona Onomatopoeia...Ona Ona Onomatopoeia"

What is interesting about all of these suggestions so far, is that they have highlighted the sheer variety of sounds and styles that can all be pigeonholed as "80's pop"

You got bands more commonly associated with funk, punk, rock, pop, new wave, electro etc etc all making top notch "pop" songs.

Here's a playlist I put together recently. The criteria: tracks I remember being played at my student union disco. I imagined a night in December 1985, and limited myself to what would have been being played at that time. A couple are a few years old at that point, but were still popular on the dance floor, so they went in.

My kids hate it. :D
