Budapest - travel tips, things to see and do etc

I went there over 20 years ago , great city , my favourite bit was at the Cathedral, we'd read they had the hand of St Stephen on display  So we went to have a look , got to where it was , couldn't see it :( until we saw a coin slot :hmm: put some money in , a light came on  and there was a bony hand  I dearly hope it is still displayed this way

I loved budapest..... there's a massive indoor market, I can't remember when its open though.

Back and had a great time. What a lovely city. Christmas markets everywhere, stayed in an amazing apartment, did lots of shopping and wandering up hills to look at views.

The last thread is nearly 8 years old. I'm off there in 4 weeks for a few days. Anyone been recently? Any top tips? I'm staying on the Pest side of the river but very central. With gf. Can't do much walking (medical problem) but aiming to get one of those Budapest cards for value. Any contributions welcome, even the sarcastic ones saying "Watch out for the fascists". I'm on a holiday, not really looking to seize the means of production. Thx in advance.

Please visit the model of the city made out of marzipan and take photos for me. My companions would not allow us to visit this no doubt superlative attraction when I was there coming up for 2 years ago.

Travel Man on C4 was about Budapest this week: Travel Man: 48 Hours in... - On Demand - All 4

Gf watched, said it was rubbish, short on factual useful info, big on sneer? Anyway, just found a fellow teacher has a Hungarian husband, she's been about 6 billion times and has typed out a small PhD thesis for me to follow around. It doesn't mention marzipan Mrs Miggins. You can imagine my disappointment.

I thought it was funny.

Off there tomorrow for a few days, gonna try the baths, museum of terror, mebbes an opera and the ramshackle bars.

Anyone been fairly recently and could recommend anything else?

There’s a choice of baths, think I went to szechenyi, but rudas and gallert look amazing too. Check prices before you go.

River trip would be good.

Gellert Hill gives amazing views of the city.

Getting around is easy, brilliant small tube system, dirt cheap. IIRC, airport to city is medium bus ride plus tube journey. This is detailed somewhere on Internet, easy to do.

Have fun. I liked Budapest.

Some colleagues have just returned from a stag do there. Apparently they went somewhere to shoot loads of different guns.
