The shift of Western media towards not doing this seems to have coincided with the sheer deluge of ISIS' propaganda featuring dead bodies. I remember back in only 2003 Western journalists piously attacking Arabic language media for showing death and injury on TV, now Western media does the same.

indeed, Cameron et al don't have to milk this or blow it out of proportion in order to take attention away from the difficulties of the Idiot George, they just have to do their jobs, and one of the parts of doing their jobs is to be seen to be doing their jobs. telling the country that he will be meeting Home Office, FCO, Defence, Transport and the three Int/Sy agencies to be briefed and to make decisions is a part of that.

it happens to be, for the tories, politically fortuitous that this issue is one of the few where the Tory MP's are 100% behind Cameron and they know that Cameron has very good ratings from across the electorate - it in unfortunate for Labour (and i was rather looking forward to watching John McDonnell eviscerate George Osbourne) that almost the exact opposite is true for Corbyn.
