Fucking hell I nearly barfed-the blood drinking and offal was fucking gross :(

Aye, I nearly marched over to them myself in my birkenstocks, clutching a pack of Linda McCuntney's finest bangers, ready to lecture them on the evils and inefficiencies of meat eating...
;) :p

He's a braver man than me for certain though. The need for protein may make drinking cattle blood entirely understandable, but even I'd draw the line at dry-swallowing congealed strings of solidified blood. No wonder that beef soup tasted so divine to him

What's so bad about offal though?

Great programme. I'm already gutted that there only seem to be 3 in this series

:)

He's a bit like nu-wave Michael Palin in so much as he comes over as a likeable and humble chap to both the viewers and the people he's with.

It must take some real bottle to mix it with such different cultures.

Innit, theres always a danger with these kind of programmes of patronising the participants but i think he pulls it off, he's genuinely interested and gets stuck in.

I remember my old gran and uncle coming back from the market with big bags of pigs blood, ready to make (West Indian) black pudding with. Bloody horrible it looked - I can even recall them dipping their fingers in to taste. Yuk.

Tasted fine when it was made though, with relatives flocking from miles around to get some freshly made pudding. Seems strangely inconceivable now - it's amazing how far removed most of us Brits are from the idea of killing an animal and treasuring/using every bit of goodness. It's little wonder, with our habit of picking up cellophaned, unidentifiable bits of something anodyne in blue plastic tray, that we find the killing side of things even more unpalatable. And yet we're the ones demanding ever cheaper meat and (effectively) ensuring that we in the 'developed world' treat our livestock with far less respect and love.
