Brown votes Tory again?

What's he got to fear from that? It's not as if he's going to be tackled on any of it from a left perspective, is it? At most it'll be "but are your proposals workable, Mr Brown?". Or "What would you say to criticisms that your proposals don't go far enough, Mr Brown?"

Just coming out that other ministers also involved in funds debacle I believe!! ( allegedly);)

I can't believe as an ex labour party member that I hope new lab crashes and burns over this issue!!

The point is are the government going to force employers to take the benefit claimants they are going to force into work.

I doubt it. They'll probably get some private contracter paid state money to arrange 'experience' and 'training' for someone like walmart, who will probably be paid to take the claimant, who won't receive any payment. This actually already happens - and the right wingers will lap it up.

BROWN " I did not know until last Saturday"

Reminds me of;

Clinton " I did not have sexual relations with that woman"

and:

Nixon " I had no knowledge of a Watergate raid"

And the cod-left will continue to ignore it and ineffectually hop around in a circle with it's collective foot in it's mouth and it's hands up it's arse.

And YOUR opposition takes the form of what, exactly?

it usually consists of repeating the same tierd old mantra for the next decade in the hope that if one repeats in enough it would become true and prove the non-point being made.

he will probably tell us he is an 'anarchist' next :)

Looking foward to seeing 'Brown the Tory' squirm at mid-day at his monthly press gathering at No10.
If ever there was a bloke who wished he could throw a sicky today its gotta be him!!!:D

Once again I thought he did a difficult job well and convincingly. It's amazing how perceptions can differ so widely.

Difficult? He should try being on the receiving end of some of his policies!

No government can always please everyone. Benefit claimants simply have to realise that they really have to have good reasons for claiming, or else find a job. I lived through times when it was still possible to live of the state with impunity, ( I have at times, like many, made occasional use of that), but those days have passed now and claims of disablement will, by any government, be put scrupiously to the test.

Claims of disablement are already being scrupulously to the test. This is an unscrupulous act that has at it's core the wish to throw a high percentage of claimants off their books and call them 'liars'. People with hidden conditions.. mental illness, back pain are being publically branded liars and workshy. Meanwhile, I don't see any impetus let alone draconian measures being imposed on employers to *have* to give a certain % of their jobs to people with poor health records.

Make illegal the 'how many days sickness have you taken' and medicals from all job interviews and that might be a tiny tiny consession.

Don't you think such questions might be of relevance to prospective employers? What's in it for them to make such a concession?

Finally!! After all these years you have taken me off ignore and forgiven me for my horrible comments about an Iraqi who broke his leg just before his compatriots were subjected to 'Shock and Awe'. What made you grow to love me, jiggy?

Believe it or not L&L I once thought as you do now, especially about Welfare!

I just hope you are lucky enough to stay well and fit and never need anyone else's assistance in life. You will be truly fortunate if that is so.

One car crash aged 45 changed my life completely. I depend on welfare to exist and while I agree that some, just as in business, will bend or break rules ( See New Labour donations) most are genuine folk in need.
I feel you have no idea how these changes not only affect the rule breakers but the truly ill as well. I am worried that some amoeba just out of uni will click a mouse somewhere and stop my benefits as easily as that chap who took 25 million records! When benefit is your only income and you get lost in the ether that is burocracy it can take weeks to get back what you have lost and with no savings one is in instant do-do.
So, while benefit saving may mean a tax cut for you and your ilk, to many others it is a genuine fear of government incompetence ( see New Labour ) which will cause genuine fear.

You come across as someone who doesn't care about the less fortunate than you and for that I feel truly sorry for you.
I hope you have a pain free and healthy life.

I wish you a great and successful '08'

Do you wish me the same as a benefit claimant?

You are too kind.

I have no reason to doubt your case, and therefore have no problem with you being given assistance. My view is that if the spongers were weeded out, there would be more resources for deserving cases such as yours.

Well either you're trying to get incapacitated people into some kind of work, or you're simply washing your hands of them and not helping them actually get a job that is right for them. I suggest our government are doing the latter.

Under the DDA I wonder if being required to bring up ones medical history is legit?

How many 'spongers' are there? Even the DWP themselves state fraud is so low as to be negligable.

The problem with ppl like your attitude is 'oh yes the genuinely sick should be looked after' but actually this is putting the fear of god into many genuinely sick people who are on this thread.
