The only argument for FPTP would be if the election was declared null and void if at least 80percent of the population didn't vote.

Then they would HAVE to offer something to the common man
 
I'm not against re-running elections unless a quorum is reached (only for a limited number of times, though). But since people chose not to vote, it's not an argument against the legitimacy of FPTP. If anything its an argument against the relevance of political parties, all of which need replacing.
