Broken fridge!!!!

:hmm:

I just checked it with the fuse from the toaster and it turns out it WAS the fuse ....and the fuse that came out of it was also a 13 amp one...but now you seem to be telling me NOT to use the 13 amp one!

Nah  if it's a 13amp one was in there originally (from new) then go for it but keep an eye on it, if it pops again the fridge will need looking at/replacing.

You reckon!

freespirit and agnes seemed to be saying different (I take on board that they were suggesting it'd be better to be cautious though).

Tbh, I'd quite like to have it on overnight at least (till Nigel turns up to say 'Yeah, it's fine! Put the kettle on! So - will you be getting back together then or what? Fucking hell my wife's driving me nuts, the fucking slag....' etc etc...).... :hmm:

But then again - what about the submerged cable? :hmm:

I think I'll turn it on for a bit, just to get it a bit colder, then turn it off before bed.

I won't forget - gotta go back in last thing to turn the heating off anyway...and the fridge is in the middle of the kitchen now, so it's a bit more obvious than tying a knot in my hankie...and also, I'm too paranoid about it EXPLODING to forget!

Does that sound ok? :)

It's not that old (about 3 years iirc - they replaced it after the last one conked out), but it's a cheapo Beko one provided by my landlords, so it's not beyond my thinking that it's just reached the end of it's life.

I've got a Beko fridge. It's 12 years old and still works fine. :)

Errrrrrr...........it didn't occur to me to look INSIDE the fridge!

13 amps!
If it says 13A fuse then that's what it needs.

Does your fridge autodefrost?

Some fridges with autodefrost let the water drip onto the compressor so it evaporates rather than leaving puddles of water about. Your puddle might be because the fridge has been off for a while and the compressor isn't warm enough to evaporate the water and it's collected in those dips.

Supposedly it does auto defrost, iirc (means the back of the inside is always slightly dripping in practice)!

That all makes sense to me, btw - but what does it mean re turning my fridge back on or not?! :D

Why did the fuse blow? :hmm:
Does it matter why? :o

Sorry to cuss your fridge, btw, but mine really is THE CHEAPEST Beko one. :D

Nigel? :hmm: "Submerged Cable"? Do I need to read the thread properly?

Sounds sensible enough :)

Sorry, have done now :D

If it was me, I'd soak up the water from the bottom, replace the fuse and just move on, but being mindful of the fuse going again in the near future/funny noises/more water. Maybe leave some milk in the airing cupboard overnight to use in Nigel's tea if he shows up.

But the sensible option is what FS says.

I haven't got an airing cupboard!

That is undoubtedly what I would've done had I not been advised otherwise, tbf.... :D PESKY GOOD ADVICE! ;)

I'll be too worried about a terrible electrical fire occurring in the night now though, LOL...so I'll switch it off at bed time, stick it on again in the morning and give them a call.

)))))))))))))))) Nigel (((((((((((((((((

I think where freespirit and I were differing was that I was assuming - wrongly, so it seems - that the fridge wasn't rated for a 13A fuse. But I think we were both saying the same thing apart from that - make sure you only choose a fuse according to the rating of the appliance.

I must say, though, that I'm fairly appalled that a little fridge like that needs a 13A fuse!

The submerged cable - in a way, what matters more is where the water's coming FROM. If - as I think the pic showed - the cable's just dipping down into the water, that's not going to be a problem, at least in the short term. But if the water's coming from somewhere above the cable, and is getting in at any kind of join or connection, that's a different matter.

Rogue water around in a kitchen's never a good thing, though...

IIRC you can get quite a surge when the compressor starts up so the fuse needs to be rated higher than normal running level so it doesn't blow each time the compressor kicks in.

Yeah, I suppose that must be it...though it's odd that it's not all fridges!

I do notice, too, that it's energy rated "B", which seems unusually low - there aren't many fridges I've encountered that are below "A".

I'm going to own up to having a beko fridge and freezer. Both less than 2 months old. Should I keep quiet about this? Will it affect my future?

yeah, if it was me that would be what I'd do too... hadn't realised it'd mean sheotbw taking a day of work.

tbf though I was djing once at a house party when someone tripped over the deck wire and ripped the plug out... after a couple of minutes trying to get someone to get me a screw driver, I realised the record was about to run out on the other deck, so just stuck my headphone jack in the earth socket to open it up, stuck the bear wires into the extension plug socket, took my headphones back out of the earth, wrapped the whole thing in a carrier bag to protect from water and carried on djing til the police busted the party... so I generally don't base my recommendations to other people on what I might do myself;)

Don't be silly freespirit! I have no job to take time off from! :p

No - it's just that I literally just got my hot water back on after 6 days on Tuesday evening...so had put up with a flurry of (mostly ineffectual) plumber visits...so I almost can't stand to do it all again, but I did call again this morning and sure enough :D they say that it is UNLIKELY someone would get round today, despite admitting that it would be sensible to check the fridge out first.

So they concede that it's a bit risky to continue using it, but are happy to leave it till at least Monday till they look at it....

I've basically turned it off overnight and just now for a few hours while I've been out...after sticking a load of bottles of frozen water in....but tbh I can't be fucked to keep this up all weekend, so I'm going to leave it on now and wait and see.... :hmm:

I don't give a flying fuck if the fridge breaks....down to them for not making it a priority to check it out eh ( </unenviromentally friendly> :o )....it's only the small chance of it starting a fire that puts me off.

AAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Right. This morning, my son said the PC suddenly went off.

I though it was a bit odd, but then forgot about it....but just now it did it again....and it occurred to me to check the fridge and the fridge has gone off again! :hmm:

WTF is that all about?!

Is the PC thing connected? Can't see that it wouldn't be really!

The thing is, having investigated the fridge, I'd say it must have gone off the FIRST time the PC thing happened (or possibly even earlier), not just now....so then why would the pc thing happen again (or does the plug being on still have an impact even if the fuse has blown - errrrr....that's a really stupid question isn't it? :o )?

WTF is going on?!? :(

I've turned the fridge off now, btw.

Should I turn the PC off, too?

Should I turn EVERYTHING OFF?!?

HELP!

The fuse obviously hasn't gone in the PC plug, btw - and nothing else has gone off, but the PC hasn't done that before and it is plugged into a surge cube. :hmm:
