Broken Family Band - split up!

Never heard them. Although friends went silly a couple of years ago when they played near me.

Worth checking out? I'm not a country fan btw :hmm:

I wouldn't call them country or americana really; their heritage is closer to the likes of Pavement, Silver Jews, Smog, Centro-Matic etc. Yes, there's a bit of twang in there but it's more of a US slacker-indie vibe, done (very well) by guys from Cambridge

it is, they're organising one in their local (as was)

yep, there's supposed to be farewell a gig at the Portland, here in Cambridge. the place will be packed out (the band room out back is tiny)

i think the split is kind of a shame, but not really. they'd moved way beyond the stuff i liked 'em for anyway, and are too indyschmindy for me now.

So when is this last London gig? I'd really like to go. People keep saying on here how good they are live, and I've got really into some of their albums recently. Would be nice to see them before they call it a day...

just to end the doubt..

"Apologies for the information bombardment, but we have fixed a date for our actual farewell show…
Somewhat appropriately we’ll be hosting a Halloween costume party on Saturday 31st October in Cambridge (yes, at the pub where we played our first show), and attendance will be strictly by application only.

It’s a small place, so we just can’t say yes to everyone, so if you’d like to come along with a friend for £10 each, just send us 30 words telling us why we’d enjoy having you at our party… if you’re in we’ll let you know by the end of September!"

They are playing at the Garage on Weds 21st October.

Cocking fuck, I am going to be in Cambridge that night and everything. BOLLOCKS.
Anyone reckon "I am flying over from Switzerland specially to hear you play" would get me a ticket :hmm: at such late notice? Even though it's a lie? :(

el jefe posting:

perplexis, they're also doing a show in the afternoon at the Portland, but no entry restrictions on that one. It's an acoustic show, but that's better than nothing...

They were one of my favourite things at Beautiful Days this year.

Shame, but it's good to know when you've done your work and it's time to walk away.

I`m 50 today and couldn`t think of a better way to spend the night , unfortunately my family don`t see things that way so will sadly will be missing this one , I have loved the BFB and sad to see them go , does anyone know what the plans are for the future ? I cannot believe such a talented songwriter will call it a day . I only manged to see them 4 or 5 times and always at festies so I`m guessing I didn`t see the best of them . Tonight really is the last one isnt it ? apart from the Cambridge gig

Happy Birthday Hammerntongues! :)

@Nipsla and Mango and anyone else who wants to come along, should we meet at Hen and Chickens tonight prior to gig?

Anyone got any idea what time they will be on stage? I've tried calling the Garage but all the recorded message says is doors open at 7..
