Brockwell Lido Breakfast Club 2009

wrong. its lee-do. it's the italian pronunciation

Yeah - but we don't live in Italy!! It should be a panino (not a panini) too - but that's just how language changes when it crosses borders. Despite being a linguist, I can't bring myself to say lee-do (unless in Italy of course!).

Well it's good to know that both Lie-do and Lee-do are right in their own ways ;)

I think the changing rooms feel much bigger now - seems like the chance of getting an elbow in the face whilst changing are significantly reduced. Although the wet floors aren't great.

Positively warm in there this morning, gorgeous!

See gg's explanation. We generally don't pronounce words as they're said in the countries we've nicked em from ;)

Be patient - the cafe is re-opening again very soon ;)

The lease went out to tender, and a local business has been awarded the franchise.

The cafe is apparently going to be open year round and accessible out of season from the Dulwich Road entrance. We really could have done with it these last few weeks though.

Loads of extra security at the Lido this year I've noticed.

It was really rammed today!!

Not so lovely today, although there is never such a thing as a *bad* lido experience.

The water was really cloudly. Couldn't see a thing, even with a decent pair of goggles. There was only one other swimmer in the lane I was in, yet we still managed to collide

I asked a lifeguard why it was so cloudy, but he didn't know.

I had an amazing swim yesterday - wierdly the temperature was warmer inside than outside. I ended up going before and after work, although after I just lazed about with a magazine in the sun.. :D

Probably because of last year's incident, when it was closed on the hottest day of the summer because some fuckwit broke glass in the pool.

I felt for the management last week - they were having to calm down a very irate young man who was very very het up because "some girl looked at him like he was an idiot".. or something similar... some flirting gone wrong it sounded like! Seems like the hot weather was inflaming passions!! :D

I went today and it was cold:eek: - my first cold swim this year
I felt buzzy afterwards and now feel v tired
lots of people in even with the cold
and a bunch of people doing the roger deakin/kate rew thing - brockwell lido, serpentine, parliament hill lido, hackney lido - in for a cold day of it - hope they got there:)

YAY! Good cafe news! I spoke to the new cafe people today - they're opening up the BBQ in the next 1-2 weeks and then the cafe proper in 3 weeks time. Apparently they will be doing the old Paddy and Casey style giant pots of marmite type breakfasts. Also they will be doing some decent salads and stuff. The BBQ will be back outside for the really hot days. They've applied for an alcohol licence and if they get it they'll be doing dinners too! It will be open year round with access from Dulwich Road as well as the Lido side. On very hot days they'll close the access into the building from the Lido side - serving all the food outside from the BBQ area - although people can still opt to go out and around (although not sure how that would work with re-entry). They'll be doing takeaways too it seems.

They seemed really nice, very excited and very keen - so I really hope they succeed and do well.

brunch picnic packed... cossie on.... yesterday was lovely and near empty - today will be crowded I reckon... gonna get there early to get some lengths in before it gets busy - anyone else up for it?

Going to go tomorrow morning, although seeing as there's no café won't be staying for breakfast... Good news if Paddy & Casey come back...yeah!

Well I went and it was lovely; temp just right and the water lovely and clear :D . Was leaving just as all the local school kids arrived for their lesson, so must remember to get there early!

It's not Paddy and Casey - but the two young guys were lovely - super excited and keen. Really wanting to make a go of it.

I was there this morning too, but I suspect a couple of hours before you... ?

A slightly different lido experience for me today - gamekeeper turned poacher. I was doing my best, breathing in as a snapper from Time Out was capturing me for a future issue

They've got a piece on London lidos coming up. I agreed to write about Brockwell; wasn't banking on them wanting a picture of a balding bloke with a beard

Still, nice swim.

Am I right to think that several of those bathing lakes are actually old open-cast coal workings? How deep and how cold are they?
