Broadband recommendations?

Another O2 vote from me - as an O2 mobile customer it's £7.50 a month, so far so good and when I've needed help customer services have been very good. I've had it for about 18 months now, and Im perfectly happy with it. :)

another vote for O2 from me, my girlfriend has it, it seems to be mostly excellent.

Ignoring the fact that she wants to nick my bleedin' park  ;)...........

You could always come and save your Park. An icecream might be considered a suitable bribe.

It's alright, I was bored. I have loads of work to do, but I can't be arsed - it's too boring

ADSL24.

Switched to them from Orange. Do, not, Orange!

I pay 13 quid a month. 3 GB transfer IIRC but I don't download that much. Flexiable month to month pricing. Apparently no traffic shaping. At least so they said at time of signing up about a year ago. If it's your thing. You get loads of features on the control panel. FTP space, webspace with MYSQL, PHP, some other things I forget...

I'm with AOL and pay less than £20 per month inc. line rental and some free calls I think. Seems to be cheaper than anything else I can get. I know AOL is shameful but it makes no odds now that you don't have to run their s/w on your PC.

My 18 month contract with AOL expired today:cool: I rang them up to get my mac code, I was actually willing to stay with them if they could match the £7.50 (plus no download limits) deal available through o2 however they admitted they couldn't, and I got my mac code through almost instantly which was a pleasant surprise.
I'm well pleased with the money I'm saving by switching to o2 - 2 months free for signing up plus I went through the quidco cashback site to sign up with them so I'll be receiving £50 cash-back after a few months -which all in all works out at around 8 months free broadband:)

Be = £13.50/month (and they say I could get up to 7Mbps)

Is that about average price for up to 8Meg?

I mean, I've been looking at that Plus Net offer for £5.99, is there really much difference?

Just switched to be from BT, they say its 8mb, but when i did a speed test i was getting 16 - 18mb on it. For 13.50 a month its ace :)

My plusnet is out of contract, I'd also maybe like something a tiny bit faster now that all three of us are at home all the time, though I have not really had any significant issues so far.
What's good and not too expensive? Don't want virgin or sky.

Tech Radar has a decent comparison tool. Why the aversion to Virgin? Paying 25/month here for 100mb.

I switched last year. Found a deal through Money Savings Expert
Even if you don't find anything to your taste it gives a useful snapshot of what's currently on offer.

Can't recommend anything particular because it all depends on your needs/location/circumstances/budget

Used to use the Think Broadband site in the past. Amongst other things it has specific forums for the major providers, but beyond a vague sense of whether there may be particular issues with one of them I haven't found them as useful to me recently.

(They do still appear to provide limited opportunities to engage with the sort of person who would like to invite you round to admire their etchings/new SUV/unfeasibly large audiophile speakers, and talk in depth about 'lag' so, you never know, you might get lucky).

Humm, one problem that has just occurred to me. My wife needs the internet for work all day every day, would switching end up creating a blank spot?

Zen Internet are the best, but not necessarily the cheapest.

still? that's impressive they must been up there for the last 5 years or so.

I was with them but left (no coherent reason) for post office. Post office is good though - proper unlimited usage used to be £30 something a month including phone calls (I don't really call anyone though) I ought to check how much it is now.

I really like giffgaff but because I only use the mobile once every three months and I've still got about £8 of my £10 credit from a year ago. They use O2 network.

I use 02 123 (3p a minute, 2p a text 1p a mb) Don't use the internet barely text or call anyone. Because I don't really use it they keep offering me free calls and texts etc to try and get me started. I have topped up maybe three or four times (only when they give me freebees) in perhaps 2 years and I still have £20 credit.

that's my sort of connection :)

i don't actually get reception in the house. I need to go down bottom of garden and hold phone above my head just beyond speaking/hearing distance, or walk up one of the hills.
