Broadband recommendations?

Nope, 12 month contract but they let you give 3 months notice if you want to cancel...unlike most other ISP's which will charge you the remainder of the contract if you terminate it.

oh right, knew there was something to do with 3 months with Be :D

Don't understand how Be and O2 can get different scores for connection reliability - they use exactly the same network.

Im with BE and very happy.....

they have a section about setting up your connection for faster torrents on their forum,....... which probably means they dont keep much of an eye on downloaders......

Plus all my bills are done online, and they text me whenever there's a line problem etc etc.....

their routers are pretty rubbish, but fine for the average home user.

18 months on Plus Net.

thanks for being very helpful minnie :):)

Do you want a contract that long?

Might also be worth bearing in mind contract costs, line activation costs, modem costs, cancellation fees, whether you get to keep the equipment if you cancel contract, cost of calling customer service etc. Going with Zen added on more costs for me personally, but that's because I had to pay for the equipment, line activation etc. Some providers don't charge

I don't spose an 18 month contract would be a problem, I've been with my existing ISP for ~2 years.

Just looked at Plusnet's expected speeds. Hmm. doesn't look that good after all, 256k in the evening wouldn't be enough to watch stuff on iPlayer, which is what started me thinking about this in the first place.

Be is now owned by O2 apparently!

Fair enough that you've been with existing ISP for two years but do you really want to be committed to another for 18 months if you're not happy, or to end up having to pay a cancellation fee?

Plusnet got a bad score compared to Be

Yep, they bought them so they could get their network. Be are a LLU (local-loop unbundled) ISP, which means their kit is seperate from BT's in the exchange.

Right, what packages are you looking at?

Are you weighing up the costs of connection fees, cancellation fees, equipment fees etc?

Going to get lunch. Back soon

I'm trying to consider all those, but my little brain is getting confused.

Maybe you could do me a spreadsheet Minnie! :D

where's minnie gone? :hmm:

maybe she's gone off to do me a spreadsheet :hmm:

*awaits minnie's latest 'Help! Excel Problem!' thread*

Did you feed the pelicans? Or the sqrls!!?

e2a: where's my ice cream??

I couldn't find you, there were lots and lots of people there, in MY park. They don't give a shit when the sun's out, but oh no, when the sun comes out, they suddenly all want to sit there

Anyway, if you send me your email address, I'll PM you the full specs as detailed in Which? for both O2 cheapest package and Be cheapest package, as separate Word documents 'cos I don't want to ask any more Excel questions :o
