Brixton Water Lane - Ken's Autos demolition

I was walking down Brixton Water Lane earlier today and on the south side of the road there's an extraordinary graffitied waste container, for want of a better description. Sort of like a tin of soup. If anybody with a camera's likely to be round that way during daylight hours, have a look anbd you'll see what I mean.

Does anyone know if the planning procees deadline has passed?

I live opposite (ish) Ken's Autos, and have not seen any planning notices.

Objections have to be in by tomorrow (Monday 20th). These can be written or emailed using the Lambeth Planning web page:

http://planning.lambeth.gov.uk/publ...lication_detailview.aspx?caseno=ISU4ADBONP000

dont worry too much about getting your comments in on time. the planners have to take them in account right up to the time that the application goes to committee or gets determined. if you are objecting make sure you let your local ward member know and ask them to call it in for detemrination by the planning committee.

First application withdrawn

Just been informed that Genesis have withdrawn their initial application for the 5 storey block of flats on the Ken's Autos site.

Same old property developer's tactics by the looks of it; e.g. put in a ridiculous plan to start with, see what objections are raised, and then gradually whittle it down to see what they can get away with.

Thanks for that update. :)

Residents meeting?

Rather than wait for Genesis to put in another ridiculous offer, residents could organise a meeting inviting councillors, council officials, Ken (of Ken's Autos) and Genesis so that EVERYBODY could express their views of what they would like to see on the site.

Would anyone be interested in such a meeting?

Apart from ........

anything else, Ken's Autos are one of the few 'honest' motor traders in Brixton. Bought an engine for an old transit there in the old days and never had a moments trouble with it. (unusual for reconditioned engines!)

I had a letter last week from Genesis Housing Group inviting me to a drop in session at Anastasi's Cafe to view their revised designs for the site.

Apparently, they withdrew their initial application as it was generally felt that the scale was too much for the site.

I was out of the counrty last week, so could not attend.

I was wondering if anyone went to the session, and if so, what your views were?

I'm going to call the contact on the letter this week anyway, but thought I'd ask here if anyone had seen the plans.

Lambeth are backing a plan by the Genesis Housing Group to tear down Ken's Autos and the surrounding two storey Victorian buildings and replace them with a five storey block of 42 flats.

Not only is the proposed building ugly, it is also too big (five storeys), it over-looks and over-shadows the surrounding properties, there seem to be no parking provisions for any its residents, its way too dense... its just plain wrong.

It would seem Lambeth are trying to rush this through and are giving local residenst little time to respond.

if you wish to object, you must write to Mr Andrew Mulindwa, Planning Officer, Lambeth Planning, Phoenix House, 10 Wandsworth Road, London SW8 2LL. and quote planning reference number 06-000041 by THIS FRIDAY!

You can also email the planning office at [email protected] or phone Mr Mulindwa direct on 020 79261214.

Plans for the building can also be viewed at Brixton Library.

If you want to contact the developers they are Genesis Housing Group, Capital House, 25 Chapel Street, London NW1 5DT, tel: 020 8150 4994 or email [email protected]

Yep, garage, cafe, shop, store room... the whole lot.

Never asked for help but the people objecting to the flats being built spent money and time on this shamble just letting them know that there is a conflict of interest which should have be declared I don't need luck read the colour of memory if your interested anyway page 17
Hi - if you could keep the discussion of this to public posts rather than messaging everyone on this thread that would be best.
