Oh good! Nice to know it's staying in the NHS.

Although it looks like they might end up with a 300+ room hotel behind it.

From london.gov.uk planning decisions website:

"Land at rear of General Lying in Hospital, Addington Street
Discontinuance of car park and erection of a 394 bed apartment hotel (Class C1 Hotel) comprising basement, ground, mezzanine and 13 storeys plus plant, a self contained 3 storey building (Class B1 Office or Class D1 Consulting Rooms), together with associated access, servicing, landscaping, provision for 3 car parking spaces, 20 bicycle spaces, 11 motor bike bays, two surface coach bays and a taxi drop off point.
London Borough of Lambeth"

the general lying

also houses their procurement department at present i believe (which used to in turn be housed at the old lambeth hospital site, which was also a maternity unit......)

Well the current maternity unit at Tommy's is great. They've sold and spent well.

The Lying-In Hospital is a great name. I have lost count of the number of friends/rellies who have seen it & passed comment that I need a spell in there to cure my dislike of getting up before midday!

Brixton. I am taking the passing through option, 'cos I've never lived there, but having been in Vauxhall/Battersea for 21 years I've come to know it well as part of my wider neighbourhood, & seen a lot of changes. Its reputation as a clubbing mecca is, I would say, relatively recent. Very broadly, I would say it's smartened up in that time, & got a lot busier, but to the detriment of a lot of it essential Brixton-ness! Anyway, I am sure there are many here who are more qualified than I to comment..... :)

born and bred in SE19 - upper norwood (between beulah hill/central hill part of SE19). Live here my entire life, but moved up to Uxbridge for uni, but now finished, finding my own place to settle my feet.

Born in a squat facing Brockwell Park:D

Lived here since, am now 16. No intent to leave at all, although the family wants to move a mile or two to Norwood or Clapham. The only place I intend to go if at all is Trowbridge, Wiltshire so I'm thinking staying put is best:)

No! Not Trowbridge! My sister lived there for several years and it makes the armpit of the universe look cool and happening. Trust me. Trowbridge is hell.....

Oh, and when a friend of mine was murdered, that's where the perps dumped and burned the car that linked them to the murder. Not that that helped them.......he was robbed and murdered on the way to Glasto about 10 or so years ago......

That sucks:(

Ah, but there are friendly musician types and special people in Trowbridge. But you're right i couldn't live there I'm a Brixtonian FFS

i was born elsewhere but moved to brixton when i was about 5. lived in brixton until i was 19, then went off to uni for 4 years, now back in brixton for the foreseeable future.

i wouldnt live anywhere else in london.

i was born and lived elsewhere until not all that long ago when i ended up in brixton for a year.

when i move back to london again next year there's nowhere else i will even contemplate living.:)

Ah yes, you're the woman who took the Paddick T-shirt to Beijing, if my memory serves me well. Nice to see you back!
