Brixton Splash this Sunday (2nd August, 2009)

Well I'm not a fan of football anyway, but as for the music yes pretty much so - even Offlines are too busy for my liking.

In the last 10 years I've been to two gigs - Level 42 at Portsmouth Guildhall and Duran Duran at Wembley. I did enjoy them but I was very glad to get out of both afterwards.

I try and avoid travelling on the tube during the rushhour if I can, and I'd rather wait for another bus than elbow my way onto an already crowded one.

Of course, I can 'overcome' the problem if I have to (such as if I'm running late) but I do find it stressful and try not to put myself in those situations more than I have to, and if it's an event the stress of going often spoils my enjoyment.

*shrug* it's not that uncommon really.

I think you'll find an awful lot of people would have been very glad to get out of those two gigs too.

sound like great gigs.
i know aj's a bit of an eeyore/marvin and a racist, but people shouldn't have a go at him for having a phobia of crowds.

He got himself to two gigs, by choice.

... and there's a lot of things I'd like to have gone to, but haven't been able to overcome.

But this is all a bit off-topic really, I don't expect there will be that many 80's groups headlining a Brixton Splash.

Let's hope not....especially if it's gonna draw you and your disapproval out in to the light.

i think you'd get on better with the fair as there are only really big crowds next to the stage - if you can handle the market, you can handle the fair. go next year. you might even enjoy yourself.

Just got back. The back of The Albert was rocking with an impromtu set from various rhymers including Jack Blackburn and others accompanied by Eddie Real. :)

Had a wander round the art at Oval House too and was v impressed by it.

This year I had nobody to go with. Maybe next year we will try it.

As regards the market, when I go shopping, I have a plan and a purpose. As long as I keep focussed on I have to go to this shop to buy A, B, C, then to that shop to buy D, E, then Iceland to get F, G, H, then get the bus home, I am fine. It's just when I stop to think or get interrupted by my mobile or something that I lose focus, and I realise where I am and what I'm doing.

I wonder if there's a mild form of agoraphobia where people can go outside, but not really go anywhere that they're not familiar with? :hmm:

That's the wierd thing, it's not unfamiliarity with a place that concerns me, it's just busy places.

Oh well, I'm pretty much the same. I've no time for Brixton, and if someone asked me to come to Oxford Street, I'd tell them to fuck right off :D

i'm fine with big gigs, crowds, demos etc, but the tube is just horrendous and has my heart racing. one of the many reasons i cycle to work.

That sounds a bit more of a claustraphobia thing with the tube?
i dunno. other situations don't bother me - lifts, overcrowded parties in small rooms etc. it's just the tube, and only if it's really crowded. and if it's hot, it's even worse.

. . . and Community Police Consultative Group. Who I had a chat to.

I was on the CPCG stall - thanks for visiting! Good talk all afternoon, lot of ideas. Posted a link to Urban 75 on the Lambeth Have Your Shout Facebook page. Vox pop videos (from Flip) take a loooong time to upload (anyone any suggestions?) but they are worth a look (first should be uploaded in about 40 mins).

Had a wander later - Atlantic Road was best for me.
