Brixton in today's Evening Standard

Round mine at the moment - it's what happens when you accidentally make a plunger thing full of coffee using Lavazza Gold expresso coffee

On the Woodcocks pub, Tullulah observes: " I have dreams of it one day being refurbished and re-opened as a gastro-pub called The Two Smokes Woodcocks (in Balsalmic Jus). But that, I fear, is asking too much."

I seriously thought you'd made that bit up for a laugh 'til I bought the Standard last night :o :D

I must have a really poor look around me then, because I'm constantly being harrassed for "5p, mam", by the same guy. I keep meeting him everywhere, at first it was just by my local shops at loughborough jn, then loughborough road, now brixton road on my way into work. I don't mind being asked, but his habit is to follow me up the street, shouting 5p over and over, which I do find quite alarming.

I too have been accosted by this guy recently, but since i gave him short shrift he has not bothered me. I found 'No I don't have any effing change' seemed to do the trick.
He now agressivly begs at the car windows on Fiveways Junction L'Borough Road.

I used to have the occasional drink in the Two Woodcocks and it isn’t all *that* bad – did the proposed Urban drinks in there ever happen?

I saw that Evening Substandard article and thought it was appalling – they shouldn’t have included their photo with it ‘coz I I ever see those two in the street I’m going to pretend to be a PCP dealer. ;)

Have I had too much coffee this morning or does anyone else have a tiny sneaking suspision that Gavanndra Hodge and gaijingirl are as one?

Nope...... not the same! Although I guess we could be neighbours soon!

Having read the article it didn't iriitate me as much as I thought it would. I think the girl is just a bit mis-informed (I took the Gastro pub thing as a weak attempt at a joke).

People like Giles Coran (Name?) and "Donal-I-tried-to-get-mugged-andwhen-I-did-I-was-surprised-and-cryed" that activly set out to dramatise and misrepresent that annoy me

I'm kinda with Mr Retro on this. When I read it the other day I was thinking "oh good, someone not slagging off Brixton for a change". The comment about the "menacing looking" kids actually being harmless is pretty much my experience of the estate. But I did change my mind when I saw the gastro pub comment. I agree that perhaps they're just misinformed - but it does make you wonder: if you moved to a new area, wouldn't you be interested in finding about about local issues, finding out about the history, talking to your neighbours about what's going on etc? Are they actually making any effort to be a part of the community? The looking-down-the-nose comment (which I'm paraphrasing here cos I can't quite remember) about "nearly half our neighbours are private owners now" makes me think they're not making the effort. Which is a shame.

Still - they're not quite as bad a Tallulah, are they?

It was even "done up" recently! We never made it there on the Brixton pub crawl though.

How about a Brixton Forum pub crawl of the worst pubs in Brixton? We could go to the Two Woodcocks, BBG, then the Prince of Wales, finishing off with a trip across the road to get chucked out of the Living Room. :D
