Brixton has a very old tree!!!

I live on myatts Field estate & when the PFI starts here then we are going to lose masses of trees cos of the new building for private homes & new blocks to replace the ones they are pulling down.

I understand that all the land opp the concrete submarine on the other side of the road of the estate is going to be built on.

Lambeth's own Environmental dept put out a report advising the Council to save some of the trees but that's not exactly going to carry much weight.

It's actually very green round the outside of the estate with a fair bit of space & I am very saddened by why it going to happen :(

but that's what they call progress........

Myatts Field Park has the oldest Mulberry tree in London altho I've never been able to locate it & when the not-very-helpful gardener pointed me in its direction, I couldn't see it.
As the berries will be out on it soon, maybe I will get splatted by a mulberry soon & the tree will reveal itself.....

Wasn't there a Mulberry Bush in the centre of Brixton Prison's exercise yard that was the origin of the nursery rhyme 'Here we go round the Mulberry Bush'?
