Brixton good service/unsung heroes

Nope, I don't think its that good either. We've started using Gousia on Norwood Rd, much better IMO.

Gousia is good, yeah. Not at the Chutney's level though imho. Depends what you like, and how they do it I suppose, my favourite dish is Chicken Acheri.

Am I the only one who finds Khan's really average?

An' me - I'm much more of a fan of Dial-A-curry on Half Moon Lane. I converted Pie and Dub to it's delights from Khan's too...

Dial a curry are v. good and they also own curry paradise which are excellent. Cheap, really delish, quick, reliable and just yummy! We tend to order in from them, but go to Khans if we want to sit down. It's our closest restaurant so that makes it easy for us.

Curry Paradise on Brixton Hill, opp the White Horse? Guy who works there is really nice, but it's the worst curry I've ever had. Maybe it was just a one off bad effort.

gosh.... I should think so - we've consistently had fab curry from them for quite some time now. I always order it in when we have guests and can't be arsed to cook and they've all loved it too.

We had our Khan's phase, then our Gousia phase, but we've been on Curry Paradise for quite some time now and not tired of it yet.

they're totally crap. They were good when they first open but they went downhill rapidly. The guy who used to run it now runs the place next to The Telegraph

oh blimey.. well I like it. Maybe they just reward us for our loyalty with extra nice curry! :D

That being said I haven't had a curry since October 2nd 2006!!

Yes.. sorry I meant that Curry PAradise and the Bombay Inn are the same people (not Dial a Curry... :o ) - I think we've had this conversation before but I agree their sag paneer is incredible!!

Sag Paneer RULES!!!!! :) :) :)

I'm glad someone else didn't think much of Khan's.
I ordered a takeaway from there on the basis of what I've read here but was very, very disappointed. It was a veggie curry but English style chopped carrots, peas etc in a curry sauce that tasted like it came out of a bottle.
Nice guy but I won't be using them again.
We use Haweli in Clapham South, it's South Indian cuisine and delicious.

Mr Inca is fucking brilliant !
Yeah I got on well with Mr Inca - he gave me all his empty boxes one day.

I also got on with the chap who runs the Chocolate Box, although he and I would both be so stoned some Sunday afternoons that the simplest transaction would become a giggling mess. :D

I also have to say a big up to the girls who run the tills in M&S. Always really nice and cheery.

I couldnt fault Brixton shop staff when I lived there, although I had be told to expect the worse. Oh except in Currys....but that has had more than one of its own threads :)

Is Sag Paneer actually on the menu now? It didn't used to be, but I ordered it so much he said he'd put it on. But I then converted to Khan's (which I feel a bit guilty about).

Do you mean is it on the menu at the Bombay Inn? If so, YES and it's DELICIOUS! :)

I'll say it once more (;)) The Chutney is the best curry house that covers SW9, SW2, SE24, SE21, SW16 and SE27..

I love them more than life itself.

D'oh! I meant Tikka Paneer. They do that at Bombay Inn too (but I don;t think it's on the menu) and it's delicious.

Just got this month's edition of Which? magazine which is listing the top 50 retailers.

Not surprisingly, Currys comes 46th out of 100, with customer service satisfaction at 16% :D

I wonder if the percentage would be lower if they just did it on the basis of the Brixton one

I'd like to nominate Costcutter cos it's cheaper than the others on Brixton Hill and as far as I know they stick to the chain's offers unlike a certain neighbouring shop who won't sell beer at promo prices after a certain hour or never seem to stock six packs of cola cos selling them individually reap evben more profit on their already high prices.
Rant over.

No mention for the lovely people in Olive Morris House?
Actually I've got to stick up for the staff at Olive Morris house. I've been there quite a bit recently and they've invariably treated me with courtesy and respect. As far as I can tell they're a very pleasant lot. Unlike the bitches at the Adult Services place in Streatham

Someone else I'd like to nominate:

The chap who works in the reception at the Stockwell Group Practice Surgery - I don't know his name or official job title but seems to be the one in charge of the reception there most of the time.

Always friendly, polite and helpful (which means a lot to those of us who get a bit nervous dealing with doctors etc.) and somehow he even seems to remember my name when I call by for prescriptions or whatever.

And seems to be pretty good at preventing chaos from reigning in the waiting area.

I love the security guard in Smiths. He's so smiley and nice and always helps me find whatever rubbish women's magazine I can't find. :)

Is that the red brick place opposite Streatham Thameslink station? I had to put in a application for a friend there and I have never known such rudeness.

Where is it?

The security guard in the Ritzy is lovely too. Such a lovely smile and twinkly eyes.

The Portugese Deli on Tulse Hill, lovely family, excellent bread, veg and custard cakes,
Andy from Haircut Sir on Tulse Hill, cheap and cheerful
Patrick in Bookmongers in CHL, top shop, nice man, old dog whose lost his bark these days (the dog not Patrick)
Evergreen on Brixton Hill will always do a bargain for crockery, furniture & stuff
Post Office Bakery & David in Cafe Cairo on Landor Rd
For a splash out Harry in the Fish Shop on Norwood Rd, fab fish, welcoming bloke.
Lastly the Costcutter on Tulse Hill, always freindly when not on the phone.

I can't believe that's the real ShaneC if he's recommending Andy's the barber.

I like Andy, but his haircuts tend to be of the short, or militarily short, variety only. And Shane's hair...

;)
