Brixton featured in the Observer today

I'm a white journalist who doesn't shop in Tesco and spends a lot of time socialising in Brixton. How do I fit into Miranda's world view? Come to think of it, how often do you see Ms Sawyer out and about in Brixton? I wonder if she shops in Tesco....

I've never seen her in Brixton and I'm quite good at celeb spotting me...have seen Mikey Streets, one of Basement Jaxx (Felix, I think) and Ty quite a few times mind...

Chris Morris and Matthew Herbert and Seb Roachford (huge-haired jazz drummer) are all Brixton locals too - and is Tesco's here is mainly white middle-class - then Saywer obviously doesn't shop there at all...I love Brixton

i'll vouch for her being a long term brixton resident, and i do see her out and about a lot.

however, i do fancy her something rotten so i probably notice her more.

she also drives one of those uber-cool Volkswagen sports cars that look all wrong, so she's alright with me

(NB haven't actually READ the article, obviously ;) )

I saw her once on Brixton Hill a few years ago, as I was coming out of the Cafe On The Hill after a particulary good plateful of liver bacon and chips.....Dunno what she'd been up to, or whether she was ill, but she looked really rough....

I never noticed exactly but she's not tall...most people over the age of 13 are taller than me anyway, so I'm not the best person to add to this speculation.....

Ah, she's fair game - an over-privileged Cheshire princess whose connections got her a well-paid job to pontificate and write crap in middle-class newspapers.

Wilmslow is well rough ;)

So rough it has it's own Gold Card.

So Ern, you reckon she's only where she is because she grew up in a relatively affluent suburb in Cheshire? Well known for all it's London journalist contacts is it? She's got no talent of her own which might have contributed to her current position?

She's certainly been pretty jammy then wouldn't you say?

Well, the only thing I've ever read of hers was her column in Time Out, which was a serious washing line's worth of pants. :)

you lot have got no class. she's a good writer. although from the moans from you lot she may be better sticking to writing about popular culture than communities.

nb. the only way a journalist could write a piece like the one on Brixton and get no complaints is by writing nothing at all.

As usual Ern plays the woman rather than the ball.

But I reckon writing a long piece about Brixton in the Observer would tend to provoke various types of comment from the residents, no?
