Brixton Bar & Grill: "taking the South London scene up several notches"

The only 'mixologist' I wanna know about is the one who 'mixes' lager with a beer glass to create that unique cocktail known as a 'pint'.
BBG sounds like my idea of hell

i really like white cosmos.

but i shan't be drinking one in there. i might mix one myself in the street outside. and then piss through their Philip Starck letterbox.

[Prayer]
Dear God, even though I've been an atheist all these years, please cmon be a mate just once and do us a favour:
There shall be a lighting and thunder at Jurassic central until all crack dealers migrate to a a new MDF location at 15 Atlantic Road, SW9

What I don't understand is the use of scuzzy to describe the Bug Bar. It's not scuzzy at all IMO. Went for a meal in Bug last week with my gf's parents and they were surprised how posh the place was.

Shame Pangea had to go for that. Much preferred their pizzas to the one I had in Neon when I tried that. Where's a pizzaholic to go now then, eh?

I went to The Bug Bar for the first time the other week. Scuzzy it ain't. Expensive it is. I didn't like it much.

eco's! just wish they'd branch out of the arcade and open at night. i adore their pizzas. one of the few things really worth visiting clapham for. occassionally. imo. :D

btw, just noticed today, a few doors up from the bbg a new shop in the making. scuzzy looking sign up says 'coming soon: something very special for everyone!'. bet it's a nail parlour that serves cocktails. :D

:D

I went to Eco in Clapham when it first opened - must have been 1993 or 1994 - and had the worst case of food poisoning I've ever experienced. I'd ordered a veggie calzone and tucked in only to find it had ham in it. I sent it back straight away and they weren't impressed - hardly apologetic. I spent most of the night doubled up in pain in my bathroom with horrific stomach cramps.

I loved San Marco. I was a regular from the start of 1993 when I moved to the area - council flat on Rodenhurst Road, next door to Dub Judah whose studio flat was, quite literally, a studio - and I loved everything about it. The owner was excellent company, even though I saw him hit a customer once (!), the prices were low, and the spicy mushrooms and pizzas were delicious. I was alarmed when the front got redone - new window, making it all more upmarket - but the menu remained so that was okay. Until this year. I was heartbroken when they changed the menu. Been back once and it's a shadow of its former self.

I'm feeling a bit upset now. I want San Marco back.

wow, i've never heard of anyone get food poisoning from eco's. i've been going since it was franco's and have always found the pizzas superb. mind you, i frequent the brixton one mainly, usually have a veggie pizza and rarely touch the calzone. i like to see what's on my pizza. calzone is good in winter 'cos it stays hot when you were sat outside with snow falling into your coffee through the broken glass of the arcade roof. :D

I've never had a calzone since!

I didn't know there was an Eco in the arcade at Brixton. I obviously haven't been paying attention! I'd take a look but if it doesn't open at night it's not much use. What time does it close?

Maybe the Camping Centre will reopen as a pizzeria. I can dream...

Ah, I see it's merged with Bah Humbug, I was confused for a bit. (Probably happened ages ago.)

I thought Bah Humbug was pretty decent - I recommended it to my dad as a place in Brixton with a good veggie selection. It's been a couple of years at least since I've eaten there though.

Expensive, though, yeah. And neither of them are what you'd call scuzzy.

Both Missuz Scott and I tried to go there once quite early about 8:00 pm. We were refused by the bouncers and told it wasn't our type of place, whatever than means?

Not tried to go back since and never will.

O No! I liked San Marco as it was. It seemed to pull in the crowds without having to go upmarket. May have a walk past to see what it's like now.

Eco is not only highly over-rated (not really much better than Pizza Express IMO), it is always full, and full of ghastly poseurs at that. (Never tried the one in Brixton).

(These kind of threads always remind me a bit of the folk-singers joke.

Q. How many folk singers does it take to change a light bulb?

A. Four. One to change the bulb, and three to sing about how much better the old one was.

I'm as guilty of the folk-singer syndrome as anyone!)
