Brits to work till 70

No I didn't. I just took out the relevant part of this, which was the first part:
Exactly, you deliberately (for reasons known only to yourself) omitted the part where I specifically said this "scheme" doesn't (shouldn't) have to be a private scheme...

Is there much financial difference between a state pension and Jobseekers Allowance - presuming Housing Benefit/Social security stuff is about the same regardless?

Actually that's pretty involved isn't it; house-owner, renting, living alone . . . other benefits.

The main difference is the quite obvious one - JSA means you have to look for a job - any job as long as it's fulltime and a pension means you don't have to.

It's more the principle of it than just the amount.

"And this pension is perfect if you intend to work right up to retirement and then immediately die..."

Alternatively:

Both :D and :( at the same time.

I'm 27, just going into university so i'll be 31 when I start work proper. I won't be retiring til i'm about 75-80. We'll probably all be dead/in refugee camps by then anyway.

The state pension is a disgrace. I wouldn't be able to live on it and I'm pretty careful with my money - no car, hardly heat my band A shed ... I aim to live on about £500 a month - including buying the odd pair of pants - excluding rent and holidays.

At 66 I would be expected to live on £411 per month. How exactly does anyone do that ?

I'm already resigned to the fact i'll be working till i drop..........

fuck knows what happens then !

It is a relativly new idea (the state pension for all), shouldn't it go back to being means tested before we start on the ladder to 70?
