    It's British Pie week. It's a great excuse for eating more pies (as if I needed one).

    Apparently it's also Spam appreciation week too, so you could have a Spam pie and kill 2 birds with one stone.

    Ah my goodness, any excuse for pie mesself - as long as it's savoury, I don't have much of a sweet tooth.

    I tend to go for the more traditional fillings - steak & ale, steak & kidney, or chicken.

    Was just thinking in terms of stuff with pastry, but yes the entire family of potato-topped goodness is welcome in my house.

    World Pasty Championships winners included a U.S. bakery with a barbecue chicken creation made with sweet potato, courgette, red pepper, sweetcorn and pineapple.

    'tis wrong on so many levels, but in particular including pineapple - WTF? :mad:

    I had a mini pork pie earlier- it was dry and had no jelly in it. Hopefully better pies will be coming my way in the week

    Which, of course, are not pies.

    Filling-wise I think it’s hard to beat a well made, traditional steak and kidney or beef and onion pie.

    I do prefer steak and kidney pudding though but gooduns are getting increasingly hard to find. The only London restaurants that I’m aware of now with steak and kidney pudding on the menus are Rules (too dry), Porters (too crap), and Simpsons (too expensive).

    If anyone can point me in the direction of a decent S&KP elsewhere I’d be very grateful.

    I prefer shortcrust on sides AND top but a pie with no sides or base of pastry is by definition not a pie. Its a small stew with a puff pastry lid

    Had a really delicious steak, mushroom and Guinness pie a few months ago

    Guinness is produced within the British Isles, lets not get all flagy about it, food is too important.

    I very rarely eat pies, haven't had a pie for years. I shy away from the risk of inadequate pastry disappointment.

    There was a craze for pie sandwiches a few years ago, tried it, liked it , should try it again.

    What you do is try all the pies and sample all the pastry and if you get good stuff then that’s good but if not you’re still eating pastry :thumbs:

    In response to this, I have just looked at a fish pie recipe, there was no mention of an egg in it.
    Should fish pie have an egg or not?
