British Picnics

I don't know if this is really trad, but my mother's celebration picnic menu was always coronation chicken, rice salad, and raspberry pavlova. I recreated it for her birthday recently* and it was very nice too.

*although actually I listened to my inner pogofish and did new potato salad rather than rice salad on this occasion.

Oh and if it helps, one year when we had the Picnic With A View, someone brought a wallpaper pasting table for the food, and that worked really well, because it meant you got a good lookin with everything everyone had brought, without having to trip over them on your way to it.

I've got loads of good picnic food recipes under my belt (literally and figuratively) if you want any.

Ruby - I've done the same with an ironing board :D

I don't know about British picnics, but our picnics usually involve an extra pair of shoes so you can go wading in the nearby creek or lake.

I agree with the chair for the 75 year-old. I don't know a single one that would appreciate sitting directly on the ground.
