British & Irish Lions tour of South Africa 2021

Ok , so I’m probably wrong. Still much better game than last week…

IKR? I remember the 2009 tour. The one where Schalk Burger's wandering finger was blatantly in an eye socket. "At least yellow", quoth the craven tmo. A yellow he got from the craven ref. I then watched the entire first XV, including a number of Wales players who would take 6 months to recover, get fucking taken out. Fuck him and the fucking horse he rode in on
It was a double eye gouge.

Bit of a shit game of rugby this though.

Increased intensity from SA second half. Smarter use of subs too.

Disappointing.

and yes, Van Der Merwe! Surely the Lions have better than that in the squad?!!

Gatland needs to drop all the Scots for the last test. Enough pandering and politicking - we've got a test match to win.
I’m not sure the psychology goes this deep, but Gats has chosen a team for the first 2 tests to take on the Boks at their own game. What are the chances that he completely switches the tactics for the decider and goes with flare and speed? (That will obviously give the desired effect of dropping ALL the scots and introducing more players from the land of the dragon)

It's not flair and speed we need, it's basic skills and ability in the air.

What about Watson as well, was nowhere in this game. Replace with LRZ? Would he be okay defensively though?

Regularly plays FB for Glaws, no? Still, it would be a hell of a test match in which to blood a youngster.

I should have been clearer, per your second sentence I meant more has he got the maturity to be facing SA in the decider of a Test series

Wyn Jones (if fit)
LCD
Furlong
Itoje (if not banned)
AWJ
Lawes
Curry
Faletau
Murray
Biggar
Watson
Aki
Henshaw
Adams
Liam

Was not a good advert for rugby. I felt Kolbe lucky to stay on pitch. Our back 3 couldn’t catch a cold.

Lineout went to pot, I don’t see LCD starting. He is a liability throwing to the back. Ken was appalling. George to start for me, but otherwise no changes in the pack other than Wyn Jones in fit.

I would be tempted to go Farrell 12, Henshaw 13, quick ball to the outside backs is needed. Daly on the wing, Watson at FB and give Adams a runout.

Dont think anyone covered themselves in glory. The citing commissioner could be busy, Itoje, Kolbe & de Klerk.

Agree to an extent about your centres but what on earth would possess you to give Daly any chances at all, especially over Williams?

Fundamentally Gatland has always struggled against Southern Hemisphere teams, he plays rugby in 3 point increments when most teams play in 7 point increments these days.

South Africa have been predictable but clinical, good execution in the 22. The lions have just been predictable, and were very poor in the 22 I thought.

Never really liked Hogg for some reason. Great player and all that but never taken to him for some reason. Can't explain really.

I think he has a tendency to overdo things for Scotland, try and win it all by himself, as he’s had to carry the team so many times. He’s also someone who makes a few too many unforced mistakes for a supposedly top-class player.

He's a great runner of the ball with a seige gun boot. This is halfway there to being a world class FB. Unfortunately his defence and aerial ability are relatively subpar.

Good analysis, but in the end I think it boils down to me being English ☺
