Brighton Terrace Drug Treatment centre

Dear Councillor Mcglone My name is Clive Diedrick and I am a service user at the Stockwell Project in Lambeth. I am a founder member of the Stockwell Project Service User Group. I also co-chair the London User Forum and I sit on the Nation al Treatment Agency’s, National User Advisory Group. (Besides being an honorary member of the Lambeth Service User Council). The proposed move to Brighton Terrace has been thrown into serious jeopardy because of the lack of insight and co-operation on the part of yourselves, for reasons which are not clear and do not seem to be in accordance with the published "General Planning Guidance Policy". I feel somewhat confused by all of this and so do a considerable number of my peers. I wonder why something that could be so positive for the community of Brixton, (let alone Lambeth), is thrown into chaos because of the indecisiveness of yourselves, which in turn creates an adverse effect towards the general population of Lambeth. Wouldn’t it make better sense to have a treatment centre in the heart of the community, (such as Brighton Terrace), rather than on some urban outpost, (which does not exist in Lambeth). I implore you to reconsider your decision and make the RIGHT CHOICE, the ONLY CHOICE, the CHOICE THAT MAKES SENSE... Yours Sincerely C.Diedrick (Co-chair Stockwell Project User Group)

Nice one! One of those to South London Press whouldent go a miss.

Hey, cool, back to the old thread.

SLAM claimed that their centre needed to be close to the tube so that clients could use the tube to get there. Since their clients are all resident in Lambeth this is rather implausible. Or are they all coming in from Clapham, Oval and Vauxhall?

(Or maybe, just maybe, they were lying. And the reason they wanted to be near the tube was for their staff, a senior member of which lives in Brighton, E Sussex. Deosn't bear thinking about does it?)

The reason I broguht this up was to demonstrate their flexibility with the truth. Whenever the truth ceased to be convincing they would extend into speculation and, if necessary, lies.

Of course as we now know (as I think some other posters made it to the final planning meeting) the whole debate was unnecessary as the Lib Dem/Tory councillors had been made well aware of the necessity of accepting the proposal as long as they legally could.

The insiders stitched this one up to the extent that they did not even allow the outsiders on their side to present their petition. Government targets were to be met, health service budgets were at risk, the Administration will never get within 500 votes of a seat in Ferndale ward anyway -- the centre had to go through.

It will be interesting to see if in the coming months SLAM deign to give a fuck about their new neighbours.

(And could they please switch off that alarm already?)

I think there's an obligation on those who supported it and opposed it to make sure they do. If the centre is run well it is going to be to all our benifits.

I think now that it's been passed, it would be wise for the BT/TG folk to work with others (BAF, MyBrixton, CPCG) to make sure that a good baseline of the area's current problems is set down so that a reliable assessment of the impact of the centre can be made once it's up and running.

Otherwise it will be a case of 'It's got worse'...'Oh no it hasn't'...'Oh yes it has'...which will generate a lot of heat and not much light.

Hey! I didn't read this thread for two days because I thought you were all going to be mean...

I don't know if you'll get the Brighton Terrace group to join in with anyone else. They're really pretty fucked off at the moment. Be sensitive.

Personally I'll wait and see what this propagandaSorry"Outreach" worker has to say about it. More people are pissed off with the process than the fact I think. The chairman of the planning committee had his orders for the second meeting and was pretty poor at hiding them. I bet Labour win in Ferndale next time round. (Oh yeah. I see. The Administration don't care.)
