Donatello? That's on the edge of the Lanes and is nice.

Food for friends and Terre a Terre are supposed to be really good. They're both veggie though.

There are a few places down near the dome but I can't remember what.

I keep meaning to take my Mrs to Terre Terre partly due to walking past it a few times and reading the menu but also reading reviews on here, iirc by you amongst others.

No idea about meat liquors aspirations but I am a sucker for a good burger. Not to everyones tastes I know

Ta for the recommendations, we ended up in the Basketmakers Arms for a few drinks, so ate in there too - lovely home made grub

Preston Street has Cafe Royale and at least 10 other eateries,Its 5 minutes from the pier and clock tower.

I was in Brighton yesterday and we had a delicious dins at The Chilli Pickle. It's a big South Indian place near Pizza Express and all those places on the edge of the Lanes. The food was absolutely amazing - there were loads of kids there, they do kids thalis and other stuff and there is lots of space. Would definitely recommend it: http://thechillipickle.com/
